Update - Thanks. YACAT: Discrete amp or HU powered?

Edit - Discrete ( ) amp seems to be the solution of choice. Thanks all. :)

Option 1
Low-wattage HU, route a set of line-level outputs to an amp, use amp to push components.

Option 2
Higher-power HU, power speakers directly off there.

Basically, the first would require more wiring but give me more power handling, and the latter is a reversal.

Anyone violently opposed to one or the other?

And allows for more upgrade potential in the future (bigger amp, bigger speakers, multi-channel in case I add rears ...)

Which brings me to another point - can I, and is there a point to, "bridging" the front+rear signals for each side (L/R)?

I'd say option 1 if you have the cash for it. The word you're looking for is "discrete" BTW, discreet means quiet and unobtrusive. :)

Cant you get a high powered HU w/ line level outputs?

I used that and run 4 door speakers off the HU and a sub off an amp. Not the bestest solution in the world, but good enough for a start, and allows for expandability.

I quickly moved from high powered HU to Line out for amps. The sound is way better. Run the wiring and be done with it.

Yes - both have line-levels. The only reason they weren't mentioned in the second example is because they don't come into play for the door speakers, just the sub(s). Both have two sets of line-out as well, so I'm set there. :D

A 50Wx2 amp will suffice for the start. You only have 2 channels of audio so you can wire the speakers together if you want sound from all four corners. If the impedances of the speakers are 8 ohms, wire them in parallel. If it's 4, wire in series.
