True. They're the next biggest problem on the road. Still doesn't make young/new drivers any less dangerous.

The real big problem is the kid ricers getting into all kinds of trouble making all the competent young people look bad.

Yes, because you are clearly a shining example of road safety and knowledge.

Yep because doing 20kph over automatically makes me a terrible, and unsafe driver. Way to have some perspective.

You're right. However, you're in the prior group instead of the latter. The fact that you have a citation reinforces it.

It's time to swallow your pride, be a man, and accept your licks. :)

You're not very good at reading, are you Nik. How many times has it been stated that the OP never claimed what he did wasn't wrong. He said the punishment was disproportionate to the "crime." You have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason, stfu and listen :D

As I said before I am perfectly willing to accept the fact that I broke the law, and that there are consequences. $80 per month is just plain excessive. Please don't jump to the conclusion that I am a bad driver simply based on 1 speeding ticket. There is a lot more to driving than the speed you are travelling. I'd much rather live in a world where everyone did 20kph over, but actually knew what the hell they were doing behind the wheel of a car.

LOL....what else do you want the company to base your driving on? You want them to give every single driver their own personal test? You want them to discount the the increase simply because you state you are a safe driver?

Yep. 20kph over is equivalent to DUI or street racing (according to our resident Cyber Police). And you're not allowed to complain or vent about it as you deserve everything that happens to you. In fact, the moral thing to do would be to not only keep your insurance, but send them EXTRA money as an act of contrition.

No; what I expect (as stated several times) is that my rate go up a little bit *not 40 fucking percent*

Agreed, EVERYONE speeds at least occasionally and no one can argue that $80/mo is a reasonable increase for a single ticket for an offense that isn't outrageous. It's not like he was going 50 kph over the limit.

Don't listen to them, just remember ATOT is full of assholes.

Yep. Way too many idiot drivers and way too many crybabies who somehow think they should be immune to the consequences of their own actions. All assholes.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. You fucked up and you learned a $960 lesson. I bet you'll be less likely to speed from now on. So either the concept works or you'll keep driving like an idiot and you'll keep getting fined until it sinks in.

Yep thats right. Because every single law is completely right, and justified. Any deviation from that law makes you a terrible unfit person, and you should receive the utmost in punishment.

Not everyone learns with a slap on the wrist. This is evident in continued slaps on the wrist while young adult drivers continue to do stupid shit like speed 20kph over the limit among other things. It ain't workin, so what are they going to do? Increase the severity of the consequence.

Oh boy another person who thinks a bit of speeding is the same thing as "driving like an idiot." I see plenty of people driving like idiots every day, and their speed has nothing to do with it.

No actually it seemed that the general consensus was that the rate hike was too high for going only 12 mph over the limit.

It's a tough economy, what do you expect? If they have an excuse to bend you over to bleed another grand a year out of you, they'll do it.

Not really, no. However, when the crime is repeated ad nauseum and young adults continue to be the biggest hazard on the road bar none and you willingly join their ranks with a citation to prove it and then have the balls to sit here bitching about it, I'm much less likely to question said laws and more likely to point out that your ego has sent you over the line to be just another statistic, just more evidence that the law that's in place is doing some good.

I'd rather have you learn your lesson this way than continue to push the limits, take liberties, and eventually kill someone or yourself or something.

It's not that 20kph over the limit is some unholy crime against nature -it's the fact that you're young and egotistical enough to believe that laws, rules, and responsibility do not apply to you. That kind of attitude behind the wheel is fucking DEADLY. Better you learn it this way then paying someone's hospital or funeral bill -or everyone else's insurance rates going up because assholes just can't get it through their thick skull that rules are in place for a reason.

Seems like the problem in general is this magical 25 number. If you're < 25 years old and you get caught speeding, "OMG criminal speeder idiot driver deserves everything he gets". If you're > 25 you get the benefit of the doubt. Oh it's probably just a 1 time offence. Pay your ticket and maybe a minor increase if anything to your insurance.

Yep because I am completely unaware of the risks of driving a 3000lb vehicle, and believe (because I am apparently an egomaniac) that I am completely above the law.

That's not what I've said at all, but you insist on twisting everything around, just so you can put a young person in their place.

Part of the problem with youth is that they cannot see farther ahead than the nose on their face. The rate hike is to prevent you from being stupid in the future and is based on decades and decades and decades of stupid kids just like you behind the wheel.

I'm a young person who's not dumb enough to have received a speeding ticket.

What kind of car do you drive? And do you wear gold chains with your hat on backwards? 12mph over, it seems like you were discriminated against.
