*Rant warning*
I get a letter from my insurance company. Hey your policy renewal is due, and oh by the way we are increasing your rate by $80 per month. Seriously what the hell? One ticket (for doing 20kph over on the highway - not exactly unusual around here) and my rate gets jacked up $80??? I must be a real menace to society for my rate to go up an extra $960 per year...
*UPDATE*
Did some calling around for new insurance quotes today. After getting a laughable quote of ~$8000 a year from one company they were actually kind enough to refer me to another company. This company just so happens to work in the same building as me as well . They gave me a quote of ~$2600 per year. More that I was paying, but significantly better than what my current provider is offering for my renewal.
I can also confirm what other posters were suspecting. Rather than receiving a massive increase, I was actually losing a "benefit of the doubt" type discount. I really feel like I've dodged a bullet here. I think the extra $20 per month I will be paying is justified given my place in the "risk group," and much better than the $80 more my current provider is currently offering.
