My wifes car is having an issue shifting into 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears

Car is a Honda Civic 2001 LX with manual transmission

Clutch has never been replaced, nor any tranny work done as of yet.

The stick will physically not shift into gear, almost like they are not there at all. Then sometimes they come back, and go out again.

The very odd thing is that this same issue happened this weekend when I was driving and I noticed that the rear speakers would make a light popping sounds when attempting to shift into gear.. I am not sure how this could be related.

Whats my best course of action?

I was planning to take the car in and have the tranny fluid changed tomorrow, as a starting point.

Linkage. The fact that it's all the gears that require you to move the stick forward is a dead giveaway. Changing the fluid won't do anything. You need to have the linkage repaired. Something is loose or a bushing has failed.

update: problem solved

solution: Power wire coming off of battery was not properly zip tied up, got wrapped around shift linkage where it meets the engine.

cost to solve problem: FREE
cost of realizing I was a dumbass for leaving that much wire: PRICELESS

for everything else, there is mastercard
