Update router firmware

I have a Linksys router and they have an updated firmware. I want to update it but also want to save the current one in case the new one doesn't work well. I don't see any option to save it in their web interface. Normally, can you flash your router back to the older version or it's more like a one way street?

Also, I have both the Belkin and Netgear wireless G router. I need to keep one as backup only. So generally, which is better??

generally there's a firmware backup option. check under the administration page.

Starrx05,do you need the new firmware? does it have a special new feature you must have?

If not dont mess with it,if it aint broke dont fix it.

I would also suggest that you not flash unless your router is hooked up to a battery backup just in case the power should go out during the flash. My router and modem have their own apc unit.

Thanks everyone... I already updated it. It was a bit scary for like 3 min but the power didn't go out Linksys ver 3 to 4. The interface looks the same but they say they fixed some bugs in it. About the other 2 routers, I've decide to keep the Belkin instead. It's a fast 128Mbps one and has 2 antena so I guess it'll have better signal. I'll try to link it to the Linksys as a bridge to extend the range into another room. Not sure if 2 diff brands will work together for the WDS thing though.

what kinda linksys is it? If its a wrt54g or gs and its ver 3 or below its hackable and can be balls fast. Basicly turn it into a $300 router
