UPDATE: removing ad banners from icq2003?

Go to your ICQ folder and find these four files:

icqate32.dll
icqateima32.dll
icqateim32.dll
icqateres.dll

They should all be in alphabetical order. Now simply remove them (close ICQ first) or rename them to something else. This would only remove the banner ads itself but not the frame that encompasses the banner ads. Hope this helps!

I have tried some cracks that would work..but it somehow screw3d up my icq, crashing it all the time..try googling for it and see if it works for you?

ill try thx
i know for 2002 there was a sweet patch that just cleared it up beautifully

hopefully i can find somethign

Maybe you ought to check it out again. I didn't like it when it first came out, either... But they've improved it quite a bit, and I can't see going back.

hmmm interesting... ill check it out!

There's a program called RegEdit that allows you to edit out the empty spaces where the ads are/used to be. You can also check out ICQ Plus, I believe that it removes them for you, but it's been a while since I've used it....

hmmm an intersting development in this thread...

ill check it out thx

as far as regedit goes im not sure what keys etc id have to mess with as im at school now but ill look into it thx! 🙂

Reshack is the other one you can use to modify the dll files for the program. I believe there are guides online which tell you where to find the locations of the ad banner window specifications. Basically just make the sizes for the banners 0x0 or delete them totally and it'll do the job. You gotta download Reshack though.

Trillian and Trillian Pro are both excellent programs with only a few problems, but minimal as far as impact goes.

Also, I'm pretty sure the "hosts" trick would work. (Go to the Kazaa Lite site and click on "supertrick")

well, another vote for trillian, it uses as much memory as one app, but is 4 messengers in on 🙂 (well 5 if you also take IRC into account), it's the bes thing that I ever downloaded onto this comp, wether you want trillian or trillian pro is personal taste, I dont really think pro is even better, it has stuff that I dont need this is from my point of view bloated, but if you want those extra features you will find pro very handy.

i tried out trillian and am not sure if i like it... i hate how its so complicated to set an away message in icq for instance, and i dont like the MSN-style chat windows for icq either....
