Well, this is terrible news. It's almost certain that they'll try to up the price and considering that GTs are available directly from every manufacturer for the MSRP of $399, I can see anyone not cancelling thier orders and buying a BFG (lifetime warranty) or eVGA (w/Far Cry - useless to me, since I already have it).

I'm entered into the eVGA scavenger hunt, so maybe I'll win one and this will all resolve itself.

I ordered mine last thursday and the status had not changed so I called them up this morning. CSR thought that they were going to be discontinued and cancelled. Eventually talked to the purchaser and she cannot get any more cards from the supplier at the old price. They will be sending out emails (who knows when) that will notify you of a 100 dollar price increase or cancellation option.

WTF...how can they pull this crap...keep us from buying another one due to their adverstised low price...even put a hold on the credit card...and now they will say the price as gone up $100? Well if they do this no doubt everyone will cancel but I hope everyone voices their opinion about this at resellerratings.com.

Well, I ordered on July16 at $345 shipped, and got an email July21 that it had shipped. But there's no tracking number (as of July22), and with this huge price increase announcement I'm very suspicious. Has anyone called provantage to see what is up with someone in my situation? thx!

Trying to decide if I should call and find out what they plan to do with my order. If they are going to increase the price I need to find someone else to buy it from.

I'm in the same situation, but I'm hoping that since it has already been shipped, they'll charge the price that was confirmed when the card was ordered.

EDIT: Just out of curiosity, are you in Texas too? I ask this because I am, and the other poster in this thread whose card shipped is as well - so it could be that only one regional warehouse actually got the cards in stock before the massive price-gouging increase.

Same here. Looks like a round of "Hey, Bub. Feel like paying $50 over MSRP on your order?", e-mails are gonna be heading out soon, though nothing has arrived yet.

Sinking feeling beginning. (I'm not paying over $350 for a GT. I'll wait first.)

Yup, here's my order status as well:

Status: This invoice has been completed.
Invoice date: Wednesday, July 21, 2004
Ship via: Ground Delivery
Tracking number: Your order has been shipped, and we are waiting for the regional warehouse to supply us with the shipment tracking number.

We'll see...

I just wanted to add that I ordered an eVGA 6800 GT from Accupc.com this morning for $398 shipped FedEx and it is shipping in one hour. I'm sorry, but that level of service and availability is worth the extra cash. I've already pre-sold the copy of Far Cry at work, so effectively this card is going to be $378 for me.

eVGA 6800 GT with Far Cry for $398 Shipped 3-Day FedEx at AccuPC

The same card is $416 with equivalent 3-day FedEx or $412 with Ground shipping direct from eVGA.

My thoughts exactly Johnbear007. I knew they were going to pull a bait and switch, so I held off placing an order--almost did last night, but decided to go to bed instead and see what would turn up this morning.:thumbsdown:

They changed my status to "Status: We are waiting for additional information so we can process your Internet order. "

Sounds like it is to verify the change in price. Guess I will call them when I get home and check it out.

I just talked to their customer service. They told me that the manufacturer has 'suddenly raised the price' on these orders, and that they have over 200 orders that they have to send e-mails out to regarding it. She said "The manufacutrere will not even honor the price for the orders they already have" So I imagine this is PNY's fault as well?

Regardless, you guys are not going to get it at this price (other than possible those that have gotten shipping e-mails?)

So the OP should change this thread to dead.

My feedback has already been left. Perhaps the real bait and switcher is PNY?

Just received an email from Provantage...

Dear Provantage Customer,
Occasionally, the price may change on an out-of-stock item due to an unexpected cost increase from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, an unexpected cost increase has occurred on an item you ordered, Provantage part# PNYV03P. As a result of this increase, our new price is $448.20. Please advise if we should proceed with your order at the new price.

Ba$tards...

Look at fubaccajoe's review, it's the 2nd one from the top. Click here. Look's like they have a habit of lying. I bet they had that excuse planned long in advance. It's convenient don't you think?

I'm crossing my fingers! Since the card has (supposedly) been shipped for the three of us here who have gotten those shipping emails, wouldn't it be illegal to charge more anyway?

For those of you that got an email saying it shipped...please check your credit cards to see if they charged you. If they didnt yet my guess is that they didnt ship it yet.

You guys and your resellerratings are funny. I wanted this card as much as anybody, but they have the right to change the price or have it changed on them and you knew that ordering. I would post on resellerratings if the company shipped me the wrong item or never updated me or charged me incorrectly, but not if they made an honest mistake. Whatever.

I wrote a somewhat 'disappointed in this event' email to proadvantage and got the following reply:

We are sorry but this was a sudden increase from the manufacturer to us. We had no notice of the increase and the manufacturer would not even honor our backorders at the old cost. Perhaps you should contact PNY who is the one that suddenly raised the cost to their vendors. Their website is www.pny.com.

It seems sincere, so maybe pny actually did raise the price on them. In all seriousness, I imagine proadvantage would like to make some sort of profit on a hot item such as this, so I guess I cannot fault them.

Their excuse is bogus for this reason: The MSRP is $399, which means that for Best Buy or anyone to make a profit, even a slim 5-10% margin, the price would have to be SOMEWHERE under $399, right?

Now, Provantage is saying that they are getting ganked by their supplier and now have to charge 10% OVER THE MSRP?!?!?!? How the heck does that work? Are they paying the RETAIL MSRP to their supplier?!?!?

Common sense dictates that the story is bogus and Provantage is shifting blame where it's not warranted. Very bad show and I hope they get stung by the backlash from not being able to play it straight with their customers.
