Hi,
This is my 2nd build.... and its making me tear my hair out.
Specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939)
MSI 480 Mobo
512 MB DDR RAM (256 MB X 2) - Hynix Chips
Seagate 80 GB Hdd
Decent Quality PSU (I think!)
Problems faced:
Windows installs after a lot of crashes. Keep getting random restarts. No BSOD's ... yet.
I have reformatted and reinstalled XP but no improvement.
When Prime 95 is run, it returns a rounding off error with 1 minute. CPU is not OC'ed and cooling is standard AMD. The temperatures are normal.
Action taken:
Got the Mobo RMA'ed. New one came yesterday, some problems dissappeared, some stayed.
Checked my PSU with a multimeter and got the following: (First time I used a multimeter)
3.3 V Orange shows 3.45 V
5 V Red shows 5.23 V
12 V Yellow shows 11.92 V
Gray shows 5.21 V
Purple shows 5.15 V
-5 V White shows -4.88 V
-12 V Blue shows -11.2 V
Does that mean my PSU is ok?
If my PSU is ok, what is making my PC Unstable?
Update:
Ran Memtest86:
Dimm1, Stick 1 : PASS
Dimm1, Stick 2 : PASS
Dimm 2, Stick 1 : PASS
Dimm1, Stick 1 + Dimm 2, Stick 2 : ERRORS
So the RAM sticks are ok....
Just lowered the memclock to 166 mhz, and the system stabilized.
Prime 95 runs fine and so does memtest.
Doesnt mean that my Mobo is not supporting dual channel when memclock is 200 mhz (auto)?
