not always. a shorted component can trigger things in place for circuit protection. sometimes simply removing the short (the liquid) is enough to fix it.
So you had a glass of lemonade near a PC, why?
I have a strict rule of no liquid/food near the computer/laptop, especially when it's on to prevent from this situation of ever happening.
To clarify (I was in state of panic when I posted the OP):
The PC didn't actually shut off. It was the video card going blank. The PC was still powered on with fan spinning. Monitor went black.
even so, why didn't she unplug it immediately instead of letting the lemonade splash all over the place?
edit: i am now moving my glass of lemonade to the other side of the room.
Keep your PC on the desk and not beside it. No one is stupid enough to put a glass on top of the case.
