*UPDATE* Poll: Hair poll

My hair dark red and very straight and is long. It reaches almost down to my waist. My mother is trying to get me to cut it to about my shoulders, my future mother-in-law is trying to get me to grow it down past my butt. What do you guys and gals think I should do .. can't make up my mind.

I had my hair long for years and just recently got a short cut, kinda like that chick Colleen from Survivor.

The first thing my oldest daughter said was that I looked too young to be her mom now. I would say that it was a good move on my part!

Long hair is beautiful, but change is good, too.

I have dark brown curly hair that goes just below my shoulders. My sister in law was in a similar position as yours, Sweetrobin. She had long straight hair down to her bum all her life and one day she chopped it to chin-length and left a long strand on either side for tiny braids. It looked amazing.
I say do what you please. Look around and see if a new do catches your fancy, or you could go to a salon and ask for consultation.

I have to agree with yakko. Maybe you should post your picture and we'll tell you what we think.
But then again Sluggo has a point. Long hair is pretty sexy.

There are a couple things you might want to consider before cutting. One is Wigs for Kids. If you are inclined that way, it's a great use for your cut hair.

Another thought is that you could sell it to a wig making company. It would be worth looking into anyway. It might just pay for Christmas this year!

And personally, I find it hard to grow hair beyond a certain length. It's a good way to be unique without resorting to piercings, tattoos and hair dye. If you are able to get it to your butt, and don't mind the hassle, go for it!

As a former metal head, I had hair down to my butt. It really started to get on my nerves when it got that long. I got bored with long hair and got it cut short.

I'll never go back to long hair. Having hair is just a hassle now. Heck, I'd shave my head bald if my wife wouldn't have a fit.

It's your personal decision, but I voted for getting it cut.

Okie .. for those of you who want a picture I'm going to link you to my webiste that has a picture ... I havent had long hair all of my life .. just my grown up years actually ... my mom hates long hair so she kept mine short when I was little and everyone thought I was a little boy ... thats why I wanted long hair so bad. I had grown my hair out to a little past where it is now and my dad had been trying to get me to cut it up around my shoulders .. he said he liked it long just not that long. So when he died in April of 1999 I cut it up around my shoulders for him. Since then it has grown about 14 inches .. thats with having it cut twice in that time period ... my hair grows FAST ... I have really healthy good hair .. and contrary to most people my hair is easier to take care of long than it is short ... I have to wash my hair atleast once a day when its short... can go 2 or 3 days with it long. Plus my hair is wash and go ... don't have to use any kind of styling products on it. and I dont bother trying to curl it ... sweetrobin, you have gorgeous hair! That said, I think it would look wonderful but a little neater if you cut about 6-8 inches off. (neater's probably the wrong word, but I guess I mean more "polished" if that makes sense) That still puts it a little below shoulder length, which is good for the ponytail or braid thing, but not so long that it overwhelms your face.

I had hair down to my butt when I got married and it was so much work (I have naturally wavy hair and it was always getting tangled). It's above shoulder length now, but still long enough to pull back when I want to, and I wouldn't go back to long hair for anything.

Plus, you've got a lovely face, don't hide behind all that hair!

When it comes to healthy nice-looking hair, longer=better , but not past your butt, then it becomes weird. I'd say ignore both mom and mom-in-law, and keep it whatever length you like it -- it looks great in the pic.

Yea ... Im thinking that I will probably keep it around this length atleast until our wedding .. may do something different then depending on what kind of veil I get ... I think I want to keep it pretty long until we have our first baby ... having worked in a day care I know when I have our first I will probably chop alot of it off just because of grabbie fingers ... good thing is E_mc_2 seems to like it both ways ... so thats good.

I would never get a boys hair cut ... believe me ... I had one when I was little and couldn't stand it ... everyone thought I was a boy ... I will never forget standing in the line at McDonalds with my parents and this woman looked at my mom and told her what a cute little boy she had (my brother wasn't there that day) ... I walked up to this woman and said "I am NOT a little BOY!!!" ... shudder ... will never have hair shorter than my shoulders again ... just on princible...
