(UPDATE) overclocking a powercolor radeon 9600 pro

I have radlinker installed, but no idea what to change and to what to change to.
Has anyone OCed this? or know how to?

any ideas? Im using Aquamark3 and 3dMark03 for benchmarking.

UPDATE: I downloaded and installed ati tool. First it pops up a warning about the catalyst drivers (3.4 and up) that they prevent overclocking saying you can check the box to 'Remove CLock Lock'. Did that. Then when I check Find Max Core, program crashes.
Any ideas? The driver website it asked me to go download the drivers doesnt work.

Do I need to uninstall Radlinker? and the drivers?

Ati Tool is your friend, very simple. Start upping the core and memory speeds by a few MHZ each time, run the tests that come with it and let it search for artifacts.

link?
how would i know when to stop upping it? what does it do when it searches for artifacts...what does that mean?

This is basically the layout of the software checking for artifacts. Artifacts are little lines or dots on your screen when your video card cant handle the core or mem speed. Here is the link, all you had to do was type "ati tool" in google, its the first result. You stop upping it when artifacts appear on the screen or you could just use the "find max core/memory" button in the software.

hmmm.... yes, try uninstalling radlinker, ATI tool, and the ATI drivers. Reboot, intsall the drivers, reboot. Install ATI Tool, reboot. Then try it... You are going about it correctly though 🙂

Ok...so something fishy is happening. I restarted the computer, and was able to run ATI Tool. but sometimes (after running ati tool) when I close ATITool, and reopen it, and try to run it again, it crashes. I found that no media file would play at that point. So i restart again, and things are back to normal. (the card remains OCed to wht was set in ATITool).
Cant seem to figure out wht the problem is..

Btw, the tool Oced the Core from 400 to 430, and the mem from 300 to 315/320. This gave me aquamark3 benchmarks of about 28000 vs 26000 previously. Doesnt seem like the OC is gonna be worth it. How much have people been able to OC a 9600 pro? I thought it can come close to performance marks of a 9600 XT or even 9700pro.

Well, just try setting the core to 450 and see what happens. The problem is, being a 4 pipe card a lot of oc'ing only goes a little way. You want as much oc on that core as you can get! It should be good to 450, set it and check for artifacts for about 10 min. If it passes there, increase it another 10 and repeat. When it fails, drop it down 5, repeat...

Hope you can get 475 or so! That would actually be a difference 🙂

what about the MEM speed? leave it at stock (300)...or increase that too?
