Thought I would pass this along, since stock in store is pretty much gone but the website has them listed again (yesterday was OOS) at the moment. BestBuy.Com link

I have searched for reviews and cannot find any (171S has a ton) but the specs off Outpost.com website seem pretty good (better then Mag at least).

Samsung SyncMaster 17" TFT Flat-Panel Monitor ? 171v-black
17" TFT screen (17" viewable image); 1280 x 1024 maximum resolution at 85Hz; 0.264mm pixel pitch; built-in power adapter; improved auto image

Price is before: $100.00 mail-in rebate(s) $449.99

Let me know if Hot or Not. Thanks

I saw this deal at my local BB and I was very tempted. I'm partial to NEC and Samsung. A family friend works at BB and, I asked him the difference between the 171s and the 171v, he claimed that the 171v is a retail outlet model of the 171. The samsung website specs would indicate that the 171v is slightly better. I don't really know. However ...

There is a 15% Dell small business coupon floating around which would get you the 171s for around the same price ($353) without the rebate hassle. I hate rebates and I hate having serious cash ($100) tied up in them. I'm pondering a stretch to the NEC 1760NX (DVI) for $451.

Go coupon fishing!

I have the coupon and I get a total of $398.45. As to the S model, I agree that it is the more highly reviewed model and has taken a editors choice or two, but the specs (as much as you can trust them) are better on the V model. I looked at the 151 series and thought that the v was better, but as always, the proof is in the visual experience. Thanks for the advice. I looked at NEC and a sweet Mitibushi (sp?) also, but the price for 17" was 50 - 100 more.

I say it's not a deal. I can't find if it is DVI or analog, but suspect it's analog. I also suspect that the specs are exactly the same as the 171s. They use a different model number for the super stores like Beast Buy to prevent pricematching.

I bought the Cornea Systems MP704 from Fry's for $369 - $90 rebate + tax= $300

The specs are better and it looks great! Available from outpost.com.

When did people start having polls in the Hot deals forum?

You're suppose to be posting not asking if it's hot.

It is analog only. Go directly to the samsung website. It's under analog LCDs

Without reading through all the reviews.... why Woz? And also... does any have or used the Samsung 172W widescreen LCD? If so, is it hard to get used to?

The respose and contrast on the Corona are better (25ms vs 20ms & 400:1 vs 500:1) but the view angle is worse (150v/120h vs 140v/110h) and the max V refresh rate is lower (85Hz vs 75Hz).
Since the rebate ended 3/31/03, I think this is the better deal that you could have goten (BB has OOS :( ) yesterday when I posted (Now on Ben's B :D ) and maybe if we put the two side by side we could settle which is better. ;)
Since that is not likely, thanks for the input, I will keep an eye on the Corona, but they do not seem to be carried by any large retailers. Generally when I go shopping it is one of those "go get (Item) now for (User/Problem/New Toy)" commands from the boss that drives my shopping. Thanks!

Yep, sorry guys, but the rebate was from 4-4 to 4-8. I kept telling you it was a good deal! Anyway, Fry's/Outpost has had this LCD featured in their ads a few times. I would expect it to return within a month or so. Keep your eye's on Dan's Fry's ad posts every week.

One question about LCD's what is "response rate" mean? How quickly a particular crystal in the LCD can respond from one orientation (passing or blocking) to the other?

Thanks!
