Still think this was okay that they arrested her immediately ...

from cnn : Later, as she was riding in a patrol car trying to locate the crime scene in the dark, police found the warrant stemming from a 2003 juvenile arrest for grand theft and burglary. It said she owed $4,585.

"They stopped the investigation right there" and put her in handcuffs, Moore said.

Do you really think she was going to run off? The city admits it was a wrong decision? ATOT what do you think?

i think it's fine she got arrested... cops were doing their job.

that dumb twat nurse, on the other hand, decided to let her religion get in the way of her job... SHE should have cuffs thrown on her.

Do you think that the investigation should have been halted to arrest her?

When the chief's office learned we had a rape victim in jail, we began working very aggressively to get her out," McElroy said.

I guess they realized they had fvcked up.

An impedding rape investigation vs. a child court case with under 5K owed?

Yeah, we should drop rape for $5,000 in fines for sure and make her feel like a victim twice over.

And that nurse denied her a right she has under the constitution AND tampered with an administered medication of another individual by witholding a portion of that medicine.

She'll be fired, or should be.

FWIW, the nurse says it had nothing to do with religion.

The article isn't entirely clear - they stopped the investigation and put her in handcuffs, but did they then continue the investigation or did they stop it entirely? They should not have stopped it entirely.

Tampa attorney Jennifer D'Angelo, who represents the jail worker, said Tuesday that her client is prohibited from giving inmates any medication without specific orders. The worker insists she never discussed religion with the woman who reported being raped.

"She was mortified at what was being reported in the press," said D'Angelo, who declined to identify the worker. "She's frightened for her job and she's frightened about community backlash about these allegations."

Stopping the investigation was a mistake. Arresting her wasn't a mistake. She was a 4 year fugitive. But they should have cuffed her and continued the investigation.

And the nurse should be fired since she cannot fulfill the duties of her job description.

HOWVER:

Now this is a different matter entirely. If the nurse was really following the rules, then the rules need to be changed.

I agree on both counts.

I actually think this would be news either way. I understand what your saying...but this was pretty f-ed up.

Anyways, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that she already took care of that previous infraction, and there shouldn't have been a warrant on her either way?

I thought I read that, or I could be making that up.

She said she thought she took care of it. On one hand it wouldn't surprise me if she was a typical irresponsible teenager and just ignored it and hoped it'd go away. On the other hand she's basically using the media to elicit sympathy, and it'd be pretty stupid to lie to the people she's trying to get sympathy from. That would backfire. I'm sure we'll hear more about her previous charge in the near future.

i don't know. it depends how far you go.
stuff happens in africa all the time. nobody reports it in the news.
cause it's not interesting to people.

and it's common knowledge that blacks don't get the same treatment as whites here in the US.

not too far a stretch
