yeah my thoughts were about compression being lower in the chambers that were chewed up a bit due to there being more space for air to fill. I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world though. What are the chances of some off the "corroded" metal breaking loose and causing mayhem in the cylinder bore?

I took pliers to the chewed up bits to make sure there are no lose pieces :)
That picture actually makes it look worse than what it is (shadows), it's banged up more than mangled.

My horse is amazing.

Got the motor in the car and hooked most of the electronics up. Compression is sitting at 160-175 and one cylinder at 180psi (must be the one with brand new rings).

I should be able to fire it up tomorrow and take some more pics of the engine harness wiring. The only thing i noticed a little bit of oil coming from around the rear main seal when i cranked it, hopefully it's just getting setting in (reused the one that came with the motor).

I still respect the size of this project. Tearing down an engine on an Impala or Civic is one thing but on this that's something else.

It's alive!!!!!!

Started on the first try, though with misfire on #8 (nearly shat a brick). Turned out to be fauled spark plug, swapped them around and it idles dead steady. No misfires, no codes. Woop woop.

I've been slow with the pics, but here's the back of the motor with timing set:

Well it's all back together and the car drives (woo).

Turns out the front driveshafts are not symmetrical and I def put them on flip flopped... fuck. Right side slips out of the CV joint, so my test drive was cut short. Time to waste 2 hours putting them back.

lol

no damage right?

i hate that, doing all the hard work, then you reassemble the parts that you didn't work on absent mindedly.

Hope so, looks like one side is shorter than the other, so when you have the steering wheel straight, the inner cv joint pops out.

I drove the car down the street with the axles swapped before it started jumping. I thought i just popped it out accidentally when I took it off the car, so i took it apart last night, set it right and put it back on the wrong side (didn't realize the asymmetry till later). The rollers were a bit scuffed, but nothing major.

I just rolled the car like 10m at most afterwards, so I don't think it will be messed up.

Gonna set the Guinness record taking that shit apart tonight; got it down to a science.
