I was having a lot of failure trying to overclock my Duron 800 on an Epox 8KTA3. It simply would not post @ 133 MHz FSB no matter what I set the multiplier to in the bios. I was also having a lot of trouble upping the default voltage on the L7s. You can read more about these problems in earlier threads about how the Epox overclocking works.

I recently received a conductive pen that I ordered. For whatever reason I was having a very difficult time getting the default voltage up from 1.60 by connecting the L7 bridges until today. Using the conductive pen I had much better success. With the default voltage upped to 1.80, I was able to post my Duron 800 @ 6x133 (800). With some further work I was able to work up to 6.5x145 (942.5). 150 MHz is not particularly stable.

For whatever reason, I am totally unable to post at 7x133. The video bios appears, but the it gives me a ROM Bios error or somesuch and asks for a system disk, but it won't recognize any of the boot disks I try to use. I have to drop back down to 100 MHz FSB and then go to 6.5x and then get back into 133 MHz. I wonder if the traces I put down for the L1s are good? maybe that is causing this new error.

The reason I wonder this is because the conductive pen was a real bitch to work with. At first I couldn't get anything to come out after I shook it vigorously and pressed it down on some test paper. After calling the manufacturer, they told me I had to *squeeze* while pressing down to get the trace to come out. Let me tell you folks, this is a task for the Incredible Hulk, or at least it was for this particular pen. I had to squeeze hard, which caused the pen to shake a little bit which totally screwed up whatever precision I had in trying to put the trace down. For a 'micro' tip conductive pen, I can draw much finer lines with a sharp pencil!

In the end I squeezed some of the conductive ink onto the head of a pin and used the pin to put the trace down. That has to be done quick, because the ink dries fairly quickly.

Anyway now I think the little ball at the end is screwed up. Maybe next time I will try a different retailer.

Anyway that is my new success story.

If anyone has any ideas about my 7x problems I would love to hear suggestions.
