there's a game i'd like to play called No One Lives Forever, but I can't play it because the installation program says I need a video card with TnT or something like that? now hardware isn't my strong area but i want to know if a software application exists where i can do something to the equivalent of souping up my video card so i don't have to pay $200 for a new one. i hope this makes sense; i just got home from work and sipping a terribly-made coffee.

Well, what's your video card? Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings and tell me what it says ... it should say (Monitor) on (Video Card)

Never seen an installer that won't let you continue by some means. :p

TnL?

If it's Texture and Lighting, you should be able to run it somehow... i haven't played NOLF yet, but part 2 is out now, so NOLF 1 should be old enough that TnL wasn't too popular back then.

TnL? That definitely isn't a requirement on NOLF1. That used the original LithTech engine.

See if there's a "Continue Anyways" option :p

Look under Control Panel -> System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Display Adapter

Does it say the same thing?

Aladdin? Is this an "onboard" video card (grouped together with your motherboard connectors) or separate?

Heck, you're in Ontario. Bring it over and I'll have a look at it. :p

From what google has shown. Aladdin TNT2 is on-board video for SIS based mobos. Either way, they still use the Det drivers.

grrr! k so i updated my drivers and got the game to complete installation. my first chance to try and play the game was late last night. to my chagrin it said i need at least a GForce1 video card.

WTF? Why wouldn't it just tell me that in the installation? Why would the updated drivers allow me to finish installation, then to find out I can't even play the game.

melly's not happy.

Fortunately you can get a very nice video card for under $50 . . . less if you visit the FS/T forum.

NOLF is pretty old . . . if you want to play this awesome video game (and many others) you really should upgrade.

Hopefully you have a AGP slot - if not there are still PCI videocards for under $50 that will work fine.

how do i find out if i have an AGP slot? will it say in the control panel under device manager? or if i look at the back of the system case, what will it look like? the more i research this stupid video card nonsense, the more overwhelmed i feel.

Do you know anything about your computer?

CPU speed, RAM, Motherboard?

How old is it? Make?

We might be able to help.

You could also open up your computer - take off a case side - to look at the motherboard to see if you have an AGP slot or even a free PCI slot.

Can't really tell from the outside. Look in device manager for something that says AGP, or open up the computer and look for a brown slot by the pci slots.
