*update* NewEgg.com rant +1 = motherboard has cracked CPU seat!

ACK. My mobo/CPU arrived this morning from NewEgg.com via Fed Ex. The packaging was perfect. Coincidently, my DDR came this morning as well (Crucial.com said they didn't have any in stock and I would have to wait, but apparently they got the part in early). Anyway, I'm practically wetting myself because within 30 minutes from then, I would be posting from a whole new platform.

What happens?

I opened the NewEgg box, opened the mobo box, took it out and looked at it. At first, I didn't see anything. I opened my P4 and was checking out the incredibly small chip and freaking huge heatsync. I took the P4 and was going to fit it into the mobo to see how it fit (and to make myself feel all warm and tingly inside), and before I seated the CPU, I realized that there was a CRACK across the white plastic. :| Great. Moving the rocker arm to slide the white plastic back, part of the white plastic seat didn't move at all. With the rocker arm down (locked), I could drop the P4 into place, and pull it out again.

Wonderful.

My mobo won't hold the CPU. Anyone had this kind of fault on hardware before? I can't be-freaking-lieve this! MY NEW MOTHERBOARD.

ack...

calm... calm...

I requested an RMA number, and should know within two days whether they'll graciously accept their CRAP-BOARD back and give me a new one. I was advised to call their tech support anyway, and I'm going to do just that.

nik (numb from the STUPID PEOPLE who didn't check before sending it out!!! :| )

*update below*

don't worry about it dude newegg will definitely replace it for you
lmao
check this out...i did this a few days ago just to see what their policy was: (they agreed to RMA my CPU! even though Intel is supposed to handle that kinda stuff after 7 days...i requested a RMA after two weeks...)

Item:
19-116-136 CPU P4/1.6A GHz 400M 478PIN/512K RT (Quantity: 1 )

Type of RMA: Repair

Restocking Fee: No
Return Shipping Method: FedEx Express Saver

Customer comment: Hello I recently purchased a motherboard and intel p4/1.6A
from you guys.

I've been trying out different solutions for about a week or so but my cpu
will not boot at all. The motherboard i purchased works fine since i tested
it with an old P4, and the power supply(p4 compliant), memory and other
components all work on other systems so i've pretty much deducted that the
problem is the cpu. Can i get an exchange on this or will there be some
sort of fee extracted? Also if an exchange is even

Yea man, Newegg is the best for service. Trust me, you'll get what you want. Some of the time they'll even overnight it to you for no extra charge.

Heh heh... I the CPU that I got this morning is a 1.6a 🙂 Can you say 2.4gig oc'd? 😀 I bought an ASUS i845D. The crucial ram is a 512MB DDR. 🙂

Anyway, I just got off the phone with their tech support. The lady approved my RMA number and set everything up so that all I have to do is send it back. Coooool. I've not done business with NewEgg before, so I was quite worried. Anyway, gotta wait til payday (Friday) to be able to ship it out, though per a sgnificant lack of funds. But that's okay... It's totally worth it 🙂

Sorry, they only send good mobo's to people that visit strip clubs, others are given the 'cracked' version 😉 😛

Just razzin' ya...

I've dealt with newegg on many an occasion, and they've always done a good job, I can't say that I have any complaints about them at all. You should be able to just get an RMA on the board and get another one. Sucks that you have to wait for it to arrive though, since you already have the memory and all.... oh well, ya win some, ya lose some.

:Q She mensioned something about overnight but I don't remember. The conversation went *way* too fast. I dialed and was off the phone within 2 minutes.

Anyway, I'll just expect to have my system together in a week or so per having to wait to send it back until Friday. The lady said that they wouldn't ship a new one until they got this one back -which is fine with me.

<< i don't think this is newegg's fault... >>

Who knows. It ain't my fault, though. I didn't freaking touch the thing.

Hehe... I pulled my system apart, too, before FedEx got here. I had parts all over the place. I opened the door and said "you're my new best friend!" Funny thing is that I was so stressed and disappointed that I couldn't put my system back together right. I had everything in place, but the cabling was wrong and it took me two hours to figure out what the stupid beep combination meant when trying to start it up. Eyecandy called and I was frustrated enough to the point where I couldn't talk right. 😀 I was replying to her with statements that either didn't make sense or were totally off.

<< Argh..that would piss me off. How much you want to bet that Board will be sold as a refurb? >>

The NewEgg lady said it was. She mensioned that I was sent a refurbished board instead of a new one.

*slaps forehead*

d'oh

gee...that bodes well for people who buy refurbs haha

but yeah newegg is great when it comes to customer service...i bought a CDR Drive once from them and they forgot to include the specified copy of Nero, called in, explained it to them, sent me a copy that arrived a two days later 😀

Sure you are. But I'm building a gaming machine. You're building a "get online... do some homework for college... play videos of your brother and I shocking ourselves and complaining that we're too smart to be doing so" machine.

😀

Can you say GeForce4 Ti4600? 😛

Actually mine will be more of a 24/7 Seti machine. Dual 1800+'s should put out a decent number of WU's, & with the broadband connection where I'm going it will never run out of work.
