Update: Neighbor needs help networking a 95 and XP machine

I have a neighbor who wants me to help him network a 98 machine to a 2k machine. Its been eons since I've done anything with 2000 or 98 and I was wondering is there any software out there that can autoconfigure a job like this?

Update: It turns out my neighbor actually is trying to connect a win95 and XP machine together through a switch/hub. Unfortunately the machines are'nt seeing each other even though the work group name is the same. I've tried pinging the machines with no success. Any suggestions?


I forgot to mention the neighbor is connecting to the net through a dial up modem (56k).

Just get a router/switch and set both machines to dhcp.

Have you tried using a crossover cable to direct connect the systems? Can you ping the systems like this?
