ATI OEM RADEON 7000 64MB SDR W/TV ,ATI RADEON 7000 chip ,Power by ATI, Model#: RADEON 7000 64 SDR Special FedEx Saver Shipping $5.00

$47.00

or

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce2 MX 400 64MB SDRAM AGP No TV-Out - RETAIL -

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GEFORCE2 Ti450, 64MB (NO TV-OUT) DDR 4.5ns - RETAIL @ 91.00 shipped from newegg.com sounds like a winner.

The Ti over the MX is a very good investment. I use the Gainward GF2 Pro and my games all perform pretty well, for the price I paid for the video card, and what I have is slower than the Ti, actually. Only game I've ever seen real nasty slowdown on is Medal of Honor: AA, in the German forest multiplayer level..

For a CS, Q3, UT computer, the card fills the role perfectly.

well before making a decision... what will u be using the rig for? just gaming (nvidia) or a little of everything (radeon)?

stay away from the MX based cards. AFAIK none of the MX cards are Directx 8 cards. Also, the memory bandwidth is severely crippled. Get the Geforce2 Ti. I've had both NVIDIA and ATI cards and I can't see a difference between 2D quality or DVD playback that a lot of people will throw at you (ATI is considered to be stronger in these areas, but I can't tell the difference). Plus, NVIDIA's driver development is much stronger than ATI's so there should be little to no compatibility problems with whatever OS you choose.

The radeon 7000, especially with sdr, will give you pretty disappointing game performance. it lacks a bunch of features like hardware t&l. it's got good 2d and dvd playback and the game performance isn't terrible, but its not good. i'd probably go with the mx if its a choice between those 2.

From Newegg:

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GEFORCE2 Ti450, 64MB (NO TV-OUT) DDR 4.5ns - RETAIL $85 + $6 s/h = $91 < $100

You were saying?

Edit: Oh wait, someone suggested that card already - well even for casual gaming, the GeForce2 Ti450 will just last you much longer.
I had the Radeon VE (= Radeon 7000) and I really wasn't too happy with it.

Well, I had him go with the 7000 over the MX.... Im not a fan of MX 2d quality.. and really neither card is goign to be great for gaming... half a dozen one, 6 the other... he will be upgrading it in a year anyway.

theres the visiontek gts-v at newegg for what, $50? although its clocked a pretty good jump below the ti450.

I second elfenix's suggestion. Or a Radeon LE if you can find one for the same price.
If you don't need the dual-head, you'll find the Radeon 7000 SDR's performance downright pitiful in 3D games. Speaking from personal experience with one.
If you play ANY 3D games at all, get something faster. AT LEAST the MX-400, although a Radeon LE or GF2 GTS-V would be good choices for $50-60US. 😉

Check around our awesome For Sale forums... you can snag a great deal from a desperate upgrader. 😉

too late, already got the 7000..... this guy is not an FPS freak like most of you guys.... he will NEVER touch RTCW or even quake 3... it just wont happen... he may play an old game like nhl 200 or maybe a little warcraft 3, but he does not need the performance at all..... besides he will upgrade in about a year anyway.... and as long as the games actually RUN, I dont think he gives a flying rats @ss about the frame rate as long as it isnt like 3 fps

I have a GForce 4 and an ATI radeon 8500 and a system with ATI radeon 7200. To be honest, the ATI cards give me better eye candy than the Gforce4 . The ATI 8500 rocks with Serious Sam II. It does a very nice job on the 7200,but fog is not he same ans some lighting differences are noticable. The Gforce4 is an Abit Siluro. I have it in an Asus with a Duron 600. i am upgrading the A7V to a Duron 1.1 gig next week, and then I will re test my Gforce. That might make a difference. Radeon 8500 rocks. I am totally pleased with its performance. The buggaboo about ATI is highly over rated now with this card on the market.
