i would just like to say that im NOT enjoying my linux adventure. here is a link to a post with all my problems. im just not getting a response fast enough because OS forums are dead.

:|:|:|

let me know how the hell i can fix this problem. im using a generic 2mb video card that should work without any problems

edit: click on the second set of mad faces

UPDATE i was able to select my monitor and video card, a Viewsonic G773, and a Trident 9680 video card, but the test is still distorted. i dont get why it doesnt work.

quite honestly, the problem most likely lies in your trident card. I had a trident card when I first started playing w/ linux a few years ago. As soon as I dumped it, everything started working fine.

Okay try using the Xconfigurator again and instead of letting it probe the card and pick the resolutions, set them manually, set like 640x480 in 16bit color as your only option and try that. If that works like like 800x600 and see how that works. When its all distorted its either using too high of a resolution or refresh rate, most likely resolution.

hmmm, i think from now on ill be VERY specific in order to provide oyu guys with enough info.

i tried the MOST basic config, 640x480x8, no go, even switched my monitor from the right one to the generic one.

tried different resolutions all the way up to 1024, no go.

even tried lower models of my card, i really dont want to put down 20 bucks on a cheap vid card just for my server. it seems to me that it should be supported no problem. the install went by perfectly

Hmmmm how about a basic description of how the image looks? Is it like the resolution isnt set well? I'm starting to run out of ideas, but then again SHUX hasnt stopped in yet either :) As a last ditch effort you could just install the telnet daemon, give it an ip and telnet in from another machine :)

i have vertical bars, then when the penguin comes on, there are 3 of them, stacked vertically, and the colors are distorted, and the lines are there, and its squashed.
