Why!?. This is horrible. She is due July 15th, she just had an MRI last night, and the doctor called her asap to tell her she has a brain tumor. They want to act as quicky as possible, so they are probably going to do a c-section, then operate.
I can't believe this.
Update #1
She is seeing the Neurosurgeon tommorow at 8AM. He will run some more tests, look over her MRI scans, and determine what we are really dealing with. She may have her labor induced even this week. If not induced, she will have a c-section.
Update #2
EXCELLENT NEWS! It is just Pilocytic Astrocytoma (A cerebellar low-grade glioma is a tumor arising from a type of cell of the central nervous system known as a glial cell. These tumors originate from a specific type of glial cell known as an astrocyte. Astrocytes make up the supportive network of the brain. These cells are named for their star-like appearance.) Apparently it is at least the size of a golfball
Link about it.
What happened was since she became pregnant, it increased the blood supply, and caused it to grow. However, the Neurosurgeon told us she can wait 6 months! So she is just going to wait and have the baby when it wants to come out, then care for it, for a while, then have surgery.
Update #3
June 30th:
Hey, not sure if anyone really cares, but what the hell.
My sister is having the baby by c-section on July, 6th. She will be put under general anesthesia during the operation. As soon as she recovers from that, she will have another MRI, except this time with a contrast medium (she couldn't use a contrast medium before, be
UPDATE #4 - July 6th
WOOOOOOOO! A healthy baby boy named Jack. He weighed in at 8lbs 6oz, bigger than me or my sisters were.
Another pic. I didn't use flash...obviously.
Jack and his father.
Me and the nephew.
Man..I am so happy right now. I never thought I liked babies much, but he is awesome.
Update #5 - July 9th
This update isn't such a happy one. I stayed with her alone last night, because she needs someone to be there all the time. When she was nursing Jack she felt that she needed to throw up.
Luckily I had the bag from when I bought an ethernet cable at wal-mart that night. I don't know if many of you realize this, but vomiting is a classic symptom of a brain tumor and she has been vomiting since before yesterday.
So her OB wanted her to have the mri with contrast medium today, so around lunchtime she had it done. I was sleeping from just a bit after that until now, since I didn't get much last night. My dad came in the door quickly to tell me that she is going up to Winston Salem tonight. At first thought we were gonna go up tonight too but apparently we are just gonna wait till we hear of the actual time of the surgery, then go.
It hurt seeing her like she was last night.
Update #6 - July 10th
EXCELLENT NEWS! She was in surgery for 6 1/2 hours today, but she got out just about an hour ago. Everything went as well as it possibly could have. The neurosurgeon is very confident that she will recover well.
Just to note, the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital is very kickass.
Thanks again to everyone for your words of hope and encouragement.
PS - Her baby is doing very well.
I can't believe this.
