No joke, it is on it's way right now.
Expected delivery is either Thursday or Friday (I haven't set the appointment with the freight company yet).

Here's what's arriving: Toshiba 57HDX82

And yes, that is a Cinema Series HD model.

I was originally looking at the lower-end TheaterWide 57H82 model, but I had MTG make the call to the seller (Onecall.com) and when they told her it was out of stock at the warehouse (so no free shipping for the H82) the salesman offered her the much better HDX82 (which included free shipping) for only $100 more!.

Final price...$1848 delivered.

Oh man...I can hardly WAIT!!!

4/23: It's here!!! Just waiting for some folks to get home so we can move it from the garage to the house.

MTG's reaction upon seeing the size of the box:
"Oh dear God...what have I done!?!?!" :D

LMAO!
Hey...if either of you two or interested, they may be looking for additional "visitor hosts" at my second job: Chuck's Rockin Ranch.

Only drawback so far: You have to furnish your own thong.

BTW: Skoorb works there too now. Trying to earn enough for a downpayment and closing costs on a house for the little woman.

I suppose Mrs. Tallgeese was tired of watching "While you were out." and "Trading Spaces" on the little screen... lucky you. :D

I could furnish a thong.

But then I'd have to move to the South.

More like...going out of her mind crazy from our 3 year olds kiddie videos while nursing, doing housework, etc.

The TV HAD to do split-screen, and output audio for the second source (so she can use wireless headphones).

In fact, as Skoorb can attest, that was the TURNING POINT in my quest for a BST!

Hell froze over a long time ago. July of last year when a girl agreed to go out with me. :p I'm glad there are positive effects for other people though. :)

Hey TG,

Now that you are going to have a big screen, you're going to notice that not all DVDs are created equal. Many are very poor quality transfers that look like crap on big screen HDTVs, and other are high quality transfers that look almost HD in quality.

Some of the good ones are:

Fifth Element Superbit edition
Gladiator
Drumline
All the Pixar titles (Ice Age, Monster's, Inc. Toy Story 1 and 2, Bug's Life and Antz)
The Patriot Superbit edition
Saving Private Ryan
X-Men 1.5
Training Day
Kelly's Heroes
Jurassic Park 3
Spiderman
Shrek
Men in Black 1 and 2 Superbit editions
Willy Wonka (a big treat here after seeing muddy TV and VHS versions for so long)

These will really make your HDTV shine.

BTW, REMEMBER to set your DVD player for 16:9 and not 4:3. That way anamorphic discs will be displayed in 16:9 and give you much higher resolution. You'd be shocked how many people don't do this, and complain about how DVDs look on their new HDTVs. Also realize that 2:35 aspect ratio movies will still leave small black bars on the top and bottom of your 16:9 TV. This is normal. 1:85 AR movies do not.

How many locals near you are broadcasting in HD? What city are you in? Are you planning on getting DirecTv or Dish to get HD? Does your local cable company do HD?

Thanks for the info Amused...I knew that about the DVD titles and have some of the ones on your list to "test" the TV once it arrives (TODAY!!!!!!) here at Casa Tallgeese.

However, I noticed two things:

Skoorb didn't put you up to some kind of subliminal mind control, so he could come and nab my new set, did he?

I know he and the Mrs. have very recently gotten into skulking around neighborhoods late at night, and peering in windows using flashlights.
Just a short time until they progress to B&E prolly!

Oh...and get a copy of Avia and calibrate your set as best you can. You can always go and get it calibrated by an ISF certified tech, too.

Definitely going to use Avia.

$$$-wise, ISF is out of the picture (heh...I made a funnay!) for right now, but will most likely have it done in the near future.

:)

Well...you may consider a subscription to hometheaterspot.com and check out the Toshiba tweaks section and do as much on your own as you can. Glad I got info on the Mitsubishi that I have.

I was asking where you live because I wanted to see what HD choices you have, silly. :p

You have to break in your TV with 100+ hours of normal viewing anyhow, so you'll have to wait three months or so for ISF. But trust me, get it done. It makes a world of difference.
