i used to goto Gold's gym 3x/week. then i moved. and the reviews for the gold's gym in my new area sucks (old equipment, place dirty). and i'm been too lazy to look at other gyms.

so i'm now a couch potato. the only thing i eat now is lunch (various chinese food, or steak and cheese). apparently, even eating just that for the whole day will make someone who is inactive FAT.

time for experiment #2. eat only 1/2 the lunch and save the rest for the next day.

just though i'd share :D

EDIT: Ok, i'm eating a handful of nuts (Almonds, pecans, walnuts -> NO PEANUTS) for breakfast, and a salad or plate of veggies for dinner. How's that sound now?

If you burn less calories than you take in, you will gain weight, it's pretty simple when you get down to it...

Go out and walk or run. Do sit ups, push ups, pull ups, go play basketball, ride a bike, whatever, it doesn't take a membership at some club to be healthy, we have been here for thousands of years without them, remember? :D

Don't really have to skip meals.. just eat properly and excercise. Lay off junk food or pop and try eating more fruits.

The longest and most painful way to lose weight is to just restrict daily food intake. Not only does starving yourself make your body more open to ailments and disease, it is not the way a body is meant to be used. It is better to eat a normal amount of food at least three times a day, and do exercise to burn calories.

You had the right idea by going to a gym before you moved. When you work out, the body is forced to use the fat cells located near the muscles which need the energy to operate. That's the most efficient way lose weight. Remember, you may think you weigh a lot, but it's how you look and feel.

You obviously have a slow metabolism like me.

Time for you to do aerobics (i.e. jogging is most calorie burning intensive)--NOT lifting. Hit the track and you'll lose the weight. DON'T sacrifice a good breakfast and lunch. You'll need those calories for the jog. If you eat 1/2 a lunch while inactive thru the day, your body will go into starvation mode and your metabolism will slow, making it that MUCH harder to lose the weight.

It's really very simple.......start jogging!! Eat a lowfat nutritious breakfast and lunch. You can also have a light snack at night (7 PM) to tie you over when you're active, otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts. ;)

This formula got me abs. Don't sacrfice food......sacrifice the TV and AT! ;)

Not true! Although your metabolism plays a role, it's not really about how many times you eat. It's about how much you eat. If you skip breakfast and dinner but eat this huge amount of food for lunch, then you'll be the same or worse off. Eat breakfast and dinner (you can skip lunch if you want), but eat in moderation. And tell me the result. Don't bring big quantity and tell me it's moderate. It will take a while for your body to adjust since you're accustomed to eating much, but it will eventually adjust.

Come back and tell the results.

I'm eating like a pig, even at midnight and I'm losing weight. It's very strange for me. I've dropped from 175 to 158 in 5 months. I'm not sick and I'm not young either. The only exercise I do is volleyball and chasing around my 2 babies.

starving DOES not help since your body's metabolism adjusts to compensate for this. What you should be doing is eating healthy and augmenting that with a good exercise plan. Oh and you don't have to do a lot of stuff...just try running around ur block a few times. Pushups + situps help too (though more for muscle mass, which in turns burns up more fat).

um, you're supposed to eat 5-6 times a day. atleast 3-4 if you cant manage more.. and not large portions..

skipping meals makes your body think its starving and starts storing everything you eat and slowing your metabolism, very stupid..

once you eventually burn off your muscle (and fat too i guess) and start eating normal your body will be accostomed (sp) to storing all your food in preperation for starvation and the slow metabolism.. == fast weight gain..

for god sakes just eat right, eat often, and do exercise.. i cant stand when i hear someone think not eating is good and works.. sure, if you eat like a pig lower your intake, eat healthier, stay away from complex/processed foods.. no saturated fats.. etc..

anyhow.. go do some research :)

you need to eat small healthy meals throughout the day, skipping meals screws with your metabolism a lot. just have something small, my trainer told me i had to have something for breakfast so now i have a can of ensure and its really easy. (i havent eaten breakfast for like the past 6-7 years) just keep your calories lower then 2k a day and you should be fine.

I've heard interval sprints does wonders for shedding fat, despite it's lower calorie expenditure. Look it up.

If I were you, I would eat MORE SMALL meals. Eat oatmeal and other foods high in fiber. If that doesn't fill you up then nothing will.

Your whole approach is wrong.
First off, by skipping a meal, it slows down your metabolism like others pointed out. Also, you need to do some cardio or whatever. Run, jog, or take a good walk. You can?t expect to lose weight by sitting on your butt.

Another thing that people need to understand and grasp is that changes like these do not come fast or easy! I've been working out for 7 weeks and still need to work to get to my goal. You need patience, imagination, and determination.

Stop eating pure crap dude, either exercise, or eat meat, vegtables, fruits, cheeze and salads 24/7 and in healthy amounts. Starving yourself and skipping meals is a HORRIBLE way to go about loosing weight.

That stuff you listed that you each for lunch is all crap. I bet what you need to do is watch how much you eat less, and start paying more attention to *what* you eat when you do eat.

That's right. Skipping meals puts your body into a fasting mode. This causes everything you eat in that one meal to be absorbed and stored in the body for energy usage the next day. Eating three balanced meals and light snacks, while it might not sound like it would help you loose weight, actually works if you combine it with a good exercise routine. Skipping meals only hurts you in the long run.

when i was at the gym, my stomach was starting to show cubes (at least the top 2). now a layer of fat is beginning to form, again.

damn...forgot about the metabolism thing. it's too cold to do anything outside now. hm..at work, i think i'll run up the stairs at full speed till i'm exhausted when i get in the morning, and return from lunch (2min, 2x/day) till it gets warmer outside

i've haven't eaten breakfast for 15 years. my body has adjusted already for that. if i eat breakfast now, i'm thinking it would be bad in this case.

Not if you exercise. When you jog, the worry goes away about diet. If you sit around all day long, then that WHEN you should worry!
