*update, Im going to confront the neighbors..need suggestions..........**Box stolen out of mailbox by neighbors!

I need some advice..

I was out of town from Friday to Sunday, I got the mail Friday but not Saturday. I got a package from a trader here on Saturday.
My neighbor(good neighbor) told me that on Sunday morning he saw a box with "cdrw" in my mailbox and when he came back Sunday after church it was gone, but the rest of the mail was there. My buddy who was supposed to get the mail had an emergency come up so he couldn?t get it on Saturday.
We have these evil neighbors whose kids steal gas cans and stuff from people in the neighborhood and we KNOW it was them. One time they stole an empty wallet from our front porch and we went over and the kid admitted it and returned it. the officer told me they have gone to their house over 320 times since they have lived there (4 years).

What the hell can I do? Any advice would be great.
The package had DEL confirmation and was sent via usps priority, they almost all the time leave it on our porch but since we have a VERY long driveway they get lazy. It was two hard drives equaling $60.

*update, an officer is on his way out here to fill out the report, I will get suggestions from him as to who i should contact next....*

I would confront the kids then confront their parents if they don't cough it up (and even tell the parents what the kids did after they give it back). They must have it lying around somewhere.

If the kids won't give it up, and the parents wont' do anything, then get the police involved. With so many visits by the police, they should trust your word.

It's a wierd situation, we live in a nice neighborhood (we have the nicest house, worth almost a million while they live in a $110k house).
The kids dad (the kids are like 8 and 11) has gone to jail for beating up a guy while roadraging. Im a skinny punk and i have a wife and a kid..... WTF this sucks...

Where I work and have the packages sent to me, the postman has to ring my bell.

If I lived where you were, I would have paid the sender a few extra bucks for insurance since you knew about the possibility of theft. Or I would have asked the sender to send the package by USP where the first hundred bucks is insured free(is that still in effect??)...

Stealing mail is a serious crime. Report them to the police and the post office.

It can be a very serious crime, but you've gotta be able to prove it was them first.

Another neighbor went to the police dept and found out while filing a complaint (i thought she looked it up online but my wife just told me).

As you can see from my heatware, I have traded almost 150 times with no problems, I offer the mailman cokes all the time and am very polite. I dont know if there is insurance, I take full responsibility for this, its my fault.

I have to go to class without computers till 12, ill respond more then....(eng comp class right now) :(

No, don't do it yourself. Just call the cops, and when they come to take the statement (or you go there to give it), tell them who you suspect (and mention you had a neighbor who saw them)... they'll hopefully have a trip over to the kids, and in a uniform and acting all formal, the kids might just break down, especially if told that there's a neighbor that saw them, and mail theft is a very serious crime.

They are minors. all that will happen is they get a smack on the nahd and a don't do that...hence the 300 visits and they are not in a jv center. If they have it I would contact an attorney and file charges. Their parents might go to jail and they would be shipped off to a center or placed in a foster home.

I don't know about you... but if someone stole $1 from me, I'd be pissed, even if I was a billionaire. It's MY money, and I have the right to do what I want with it, and regardless of how much I have aside from that, NO ONE has the right to take ANY of it from me.

BTW, if you are that worried, just go ahead and call the cops. Who gives a crap if they get punished or not, just get your stuff back.

I live in a "well to do" neighborhood, and the largest difference you'd see between homes is maybe $50K-$100K TOPS. Nowehere near $800K or so! That's unreal!

If it were me, I would totally rig up something to teach them a lesson. You would have to set up a package at your mailbox and mark it DVD±RW or something.

My initial thought is something like the school fire alarm sprayer things. Whenever someone pulled the fire alarm at my old highschool, they got sprayed with bright red permenant ink. It got all over. For these punks, I would probably fuse up a couple of M-80's on an electronic fuse, and then slap a light sensor on that bad-boy. Throw a dozen sharpies in the box and voila! Instant gratification.

In all seriousness though... you should probably go to the cops and have them visit the house. It probably will not scare them or anything (considering the frequency the the cops show up), but at least you will get your stuff back. If you don't, then seek "other" methods ;)

That's not the POINT.

Stealing is STEALING, no matter what it is or from whom it's stolen.

(Well, except for JOKES of course!) ;)

Thanks to the people that posted helpful responses, and to the thread crappers who just want to know my finacial situation, you can piss off. The house is on 22 acres in a neighborhood next to smaller homes.
I posted the aprox values of the houses to give you an idea of the neighborhood.

I have a assload of homework today before my evening class, so i will try my best to make it to the post office then to the police station. I never thought those little bastards would take mail.
