I want to go see a local concert down at the Gilman in Oakland. I have driven through Oakland but never been to this club. It is an all ages club and I am 17. My parents are convienced that when I go down there the gangs will have my for lunch (diner really due to the time of day). The way I look at it is, Its all all ages club that gets regular bigger bands, It will most likely sell out with teenagers, because it sells out frequently, it cant be in that bad of a town.

So level with me. White kid going to a punk show, is he gonna get shot at by evil gangsters?

I'm a friggin' moron. The Gilman club is in Berkeley, They are cool with Berkeley.

Since we're stereotyping here...I'd say your safe since gangsters generally don't listen to punk.

No, but do not dismiss your parents concern. I dont know the area, but where I grew up a beating could do as much damage as a gun. Someone else can speak for the area though.

OF corse! I see a local show almost every weekend. I go down to San Francisco all the time as well. In all honesty I dont see a big difference between San Fran and Oakland. Its a flip between the gays and the gangs.

The people in the club arent those who worry her. They will all be like me. Depressed punks who are just out to listen to music and hit eachother. I can handel them (well...). I at least speak their language, if you know what I mean.

In all honesty, it does scare me to get hit on by a group of older guys in San Francisco. Cause its normally dark, and I'm alone.... freaky.

I walk around Philly at night all the time. I've walked back from clubs(which generally are on Delaware Ave, on the other end of the city) without problems. I go running through west philly by myself late at night. If you aren't stupid you'll be fine.
