sorry if i should've posted his in the FS/T forum but i figured id do it here since asking questions in FS/T might get me flamed.
here's the deal:
my heat is 2-0-0
a guy wants to buy a 320 dollar item from me. he has 1 ebay feedbac and no heat.
he says hes paypal verifed.
i told him that with ll the scamming going on, i would much rather prefer to have the money in my account before shipping the item(bettr safe than sorry)
i know tht's asking a lot from him and doubt if he will agree, so what is the bst way to go about doing a trade.
btw, i have no intention of scamming this guy since ive been looking to sell this item for a while now. and im sure he's a good guy too, but like i said, id rather be safe than sorry when it comes to a 320 dollar item.
please give me some suggestions as to how we should go about doing this trade.

cliffs:
i have 2-0-0 heat, the other guy has 1 ebay feedback.
he's looking to buy something from me
i dont want to get ripped off
*how should i go about selling my item*
he says he's paypal verified and so am i

edit: spelling mistake

edit:
here's what ive done

he sent me the money through paypal. i told him i will ship the item as soon as the money is safely in my bank account.
what do you guys think?

Either use a middleman you both trust, or just call off the deal. Don't put yourself at risk.

call off the deal and sell to someone with more heat , even if it means waiting/lower price
when it is n00b on n00b action, someone has to take a chance/risk. why risk $320 ?

or use a broker like ggnl say

thats true...i wonder if rossman is up for being the middleman. *ponders aways*
but besides someone on AT i dont think we'd have a common middleman, if he's not willing to pay upfront or do the middleman thing, then i will totaly have to respect that and simply call off the deal no matter how much i want to sell my item.

everyone has to start somewhere

How about he pays half and you ship. Then he pays the second half upon receiving the item.

I've done that before.

I've done that quite a bit with low-cost items. Don't think I'd do that with $320 unless the other person was similar to me in Heat with where I'm at now (20+). With 0-5, no thanks.

I'm sure somebody in here who is reputable would be happy to be the middle-man to hold onto the money for you both.

thats not AS risky but what if he didn't pay the second half, is there anything i can do then or am i kinda just dead in the water.

sonz70: yea thats very true...i guess if he doesn't agree to my terms then i will have to call it off.
i know it doesn't matter ALL that much, but ive been a member since jan 2004. he has been a member since march 2005. again, i know that doesn't mean a lot but im hoping it gives me SOME sort of leverage in this situation.

exchange cell/home phone numbers

call to verify you have the number. Changing numbers can be a hassle most people wouldn't want to go through for $300

Are you in a hurry to sell? if not just wait a few more days and see if anyone else tries to buy from you.

Get his phone number, call and talk to him. You'll have his shipping address. If he is unwilling to give out such info then avoid him. I have no problem giving my information to someone I trade with.

It's not worth it on a bigger ticket item, unless you're prepared to kiss the thing goodbye.

The pay half is fine, but there is still the possibility of only -getting- half a payment.

Either go through a middle party or simply say "sorry, just not comfortable. No offense" and sell to the next feller.

no, no particular rush.

oh and the escrow service doesn't look like a bad idea but for a 320 dollar item they charge a 25 dollar fee...thats a bit much imho

crxican: i am selling a brand new never used sony ericsson s710a phone.

Why not just have him mail you a cashier's check. Cash to you, trackable by him. Take a little longer but much safer than half first or paypal methods.

If that doesn't work out then you can just sell to the runner up bidder.
