Update HD 6870

Hi all,

I want to update my current GPU (AMD HD Radeon 6870) with a new one. My budget for a new GPU is around €200. I'm wondering if you folks out here have any suggestions for me. For now I was looking at the AMD Radeon R9 270X or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760. What do you think about these cards compared to my current one and to eachother?

I suggest checking out Anandtech's review of the 760.

Be aware that R9 270X ~ HD7870, and R9 280X ~ HD7970.

GTX 760 is significantly faster than a 270X. GTX 760 is roughly in between the performance of a 7950 and a 7970 (280x) both of which are one tier above the 270x.

I'd highly recommend a GTX 760 if it is within your budget, unless you can find a 7970 or 280x at a similar price, in which case the 280x or 7970 would be a much better choice.

As you can see from the benchmarks Yuriman posted, it's hard to compare the performance of nvidia vs AMD cards because some games are biased towards one or another. What I said in my first paragraph generally holds truth.

Thanks for the link with the review and the suggestions. The R9 280x indeed looks very good, maybe I will buy that one if I can sell my old 6870 for a reasonable price.
