My three-year contract ended last Saturday and I am ready to move on to a new position. I knew my manager wanted to renew my contract, but I wasn't going to stay for the same income. I requested an upgrade if I stayed on any longer than my first three years. I talked with the department manager yesterday and he informed me that I was going to be released at the end of the month. WooHoo! 😀

Fast forward to this morning, I was talking with my boss about the transmission meeting I set up to discuss my release. He goes nuts when I told him that his boss released me. Then he was even more upset when I told him I was being released at the end of the month. He asked me if I would stay until September if he could convince his boss that it was necessary.

I not sure what to do here, I am ready to more on to other projects but on the other hand this is a semi-stable job without any opportunity for advancement for the next few months.

Update:
First I would like to clarify something, I don't not want to stay in this position. For the last year and a half I have been babysitting the system I designed. I have done a few other projects, but they really didn't need me. I will not continue to sit on my butt for what they are willing to pay me. There are better job opportunities with a greater pay scale.

Second, I just finished with my meeting and I am going to be released. Which means I don't have to quit. I have until June 15th to train six different people to do different parts of my job. I already have two different jobs lined up, one of them would allow me to continue some of the work I have done within this department.

Thanks for all your comments; I will be leaving for better opportunities after all. 😀

If they're interested in paying you what you want, why wouldn't you stay? I guess if you already have another job lined up that you want to do more, then I'd do that. But with the economy the way it is, I'd stick around as long as possible.

Stay only if you don't already have something lined up and they are willing to pay you what you wanted from the beginning.

just tell your boss what you told us.

either he'll fix it or you'll walk.

If they pay you more like you originally wanted, then stay. If not, leave immediately. Never settle - otherwise you end up feeling "obligated" to work there over time.
