Update: glad I bought the S45 over the A80

I normally don't like the urgent threads, but I just ordered an A80 this morning and I just noticed the deal on the S45. The S45 seems to be in a different class of camera. Can anyone give me a recommendation and why?

Update: Ok, after looking at some of the comparisons, I'm glad I have the A80. Normal batteries, slightly smaller (good) and much better ergonomics (a huge plus for me). The RAW output ability of the S45 isn't a draw for me, nor is the ability to take CF Type II cards/microdrives. The flip-out LCD (even if it is smaller) was something I missed on my A70, so I think I've made the right choice despite the slightly cheaper price of the S45.

My unequivocal answer: It depends.

I looked at both and decided on the A80.

Pro: Small and light enough that there's little excuse not to have it with you; good ergonomics; accepts accessory lenses; flexible enough for a film crank like me, but easy enough for my lovely but technically and mechanically inept wife to get good results. On the last note, I'd pretty well already decided on the A80, but took the Mrs. and the twins with me to Fry's when I was ready to buy. She liked the A80 best, as well.

Con: No RAW mode (though I've read that Canon's RAW software is a pain to use); 1.5" LCD display v. 1.8" for S45.

This is my first digital camera. My other cameras are my trusty Nikon FE 35mm, purchased new in 1982, and my early-50's vintage Zeiss Nettar 6cm x 6cm 120 rollfilm folding camera. I've had the A80 for about a month and am happy with it, though I still have a lot to learn about how to use it. It's great for knocking out lots of shots of a pair of one-year olds. I'm going to try some more "serious" photography when I can get it away from my wife. When and if I step up, it probably will be to a G5 or digital SLR just for my use.
