UPDATE: I had a spare PSU, and the problem wasn't the mobo. I'm glad I take my time with these things and ponder the symptoms I'd seen in past episodes and experiences. Fancy that! A brand-new Seasonic X-Series "Gold" 650, new in the carton -- died after an hour.
I guess I'll worry about Windows licensing and activation . . . some other time.

I believe I lost a motherboard after swapping in a new PSU hoping to resolve a bugcheck stop-code 09F "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" problem. I could troubleshoot the hardware further, but I do not want this system to remain "down" because of reasons everyone might understand. I may even lose some DVR content from my Silicon Dust tuners -- cannot say.
The Win 7 Ultimate came bundled with a used Z77 motherboard, RAM and 3570K processor I bought three years ago. I inadvertently damaged the board, and had to do telephone reactivation on the OS.
The most expeditious hardware fix I have handy is an identical, tested motherboard of the same kind as this three-year-old system (2700K and P8Z68-V-Pro/Gen3). The Pro/Gen3 replaced the damaged Z77 board and the Win7-64 Ultimate OS was re-activated.
I'm concerned that I might not get telephone reactivation successfully this time. If I have to, I'll purchase a new Win 7-64 Ultimate (if I can find it) or -- hopefully a Pro edition will do.
What is the procedure for installing a new license without reinstalling the OS? I cannot see why I can't do this one way or the other: either with successful (second-time) telephone reactivation, or with a new license code.
I'm mostly concerned with getting from point "A" to point "B" -- restoration of my configuration -- in the least amount of time. The replacement board is already fitted with an i5-3470 (non-K) processor. Whatever I had going with the OC'd 2700K is insignificant compared to getting back the OS, configuration, software installations and other aspects.
Since all the parts are already in my possession, I would still feel lucky if I have to buy another license for the Win 7 Ultimate. The main thing for me is to save myself time and get this thing back up and running.
