Hello all, a friend of mine just got these parts: Asus A7V333, Athlon XP 2000, 512mb samsung ram, and a GF4, and when we turned the computer on, we got a voice message from the computer (which we were VERY surprised to hear 😉) that said: "system failed cpu test". Does anybody know what the problem could be. All parts are brand new. The board has a LOT of jumpers, could there be one i misplaced?
Any recomendations on what i should do? Thanks in advance.

See post below for update info 🙁

Have you tried swapping the CPU with a known good working one?

Checked ASUS's website to see what they say about 'system failed CPU test'?

Try the AMDMB Asus forum, there are many posts relating to the failed CPU test message and A7V333. I also ordered A7V333, XP-1800, AIW 8500 ... Got same message, RMA'd chip but it wasn't the chip. Finally rma'd the board for a refund, waiting on A7V8X. There are a couple of tricks on the aforementioned forum to try. It probably isn't your chip ......

Well, i read on the amddb forums that there was an issue with some A7v333 motherboards where the preset manufacturer settings were incorrect and a lot of people were getting the system failed cpu test error. So they advised to switch the BIOS or something from Software (default) to hardware. And after i did this it worked. 🙂

Update:

After leavign my friends house, happy that everything was working and that we managed to install win2k on it, things took a turn for the worst. 🙁

I just got a call from him saying that after i left he installed all drivers for the computer, and that he also installed and began to play wolfenstein to see how things looked on his new setup. Apparently, he went to the wolfenstein console and typed in a command to test the speed of his system (dont know exactly which test) and about a second after pressing enter, the whole system shut off. He says that now, the computer wont post, or even turn on. The LED on the motherboard apparently is on when the power cable is connected, BUT when he presses the switch on the case to turn the pc on, the only thing that "moves" is a case fan we installed and only for a few seconds, after that it stops completely. He sys the CPU fan does NOT spin.

So in conclusion the system is apparently not getting the power it needs. Could it be the power supply or the motherboard or something else?

We bought a "Superpower" case with a 350w locally for the computer two days ago.

Please help.

i have no idea what the problem could be.. i have almost the exact same setup.. same mobo and cpu with kingmax 256 ddr pc2700...

The new problem sounds like it may be an IRQ conflict, too. Try installing the newest DirectX then reinstall the NVidia Detonator 30.82 drivers to see if that fixes it. It could be when you ran the 4-in-1 drivers that they didn't install properly and its still running the old copies; something you have to manually go in and fix for each device while in safe mode. 🙁 It may be something obscure like the power management settings for the monitor may not like the current monitor drivers, too. Can be an awful lot of things that cause this.

I don't think an IRQ conflict would cause the PC to shutdown, and it definitely wouldn't cause one not to boot at all. I'd reset the Bios and if that works check the thermal control/safety settings and voltages. If resetting the Bios doesn't work, well, I don't know, maybe check all the jumpers again and reseat everything. What exactly was the setting you changed the first time to get it working?
