I got a cell phone number and I need this guys full name and address and was hoping someone can help me because I got taken for $2800 and I need to track him down.

The number is :removed for now, first name is James and thats all I got.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

UPDATE

I did have the title, and I did call my police which in turn wanted nothing to do with it and told me to call Jackson PD, the town I bought it in. The title was a "pass over". It was signed, BUT, the dealership that sold it, I found out, had signed in a sellers section where one would sign as if it had been a repo and the county clerk wanted repo papers and bill of sale. Something I couldnt give because it was ppassed over to the guy I bought it from and he never bothered to put it in his name. Something I have done in the past and never got in trouble or had trouble for and there wouldnt of been any trouble had the dealership not signed off on the title to in the area marked for a repo. I had contacted the dealership and was told at the time she was new and did it wrong, there is and never was a repo of my van.

So last night the other party of the car got a call from the dealership and was told of the mistake and said they will go to their county clerks office, after getting the required papers, and fix said title problem. James just called me today to let me know of all this and what the other owner said they would do, and if not he said he could bring the police with him if they do not fix the mess up and blow it off.

So right now Im in limbo and at the mercy of that original owner in hopes they do right and get it settled so that I can finally get it put in my name. But till I got hold of the guy I bought it from I felt for sure I got swindled, not the case so far. Which is why I couldnt update anyone for I was waiting for an update myself on the title matter and the lady/dealership who signed off in the wrong place on the title, If they had not done that, and did their job correctly, I would of had this in my name yesterday at 8 am. But the dealership contacted the owners, and I was contacted by James, which I got his last name from him while on the phone, and updated on the situation on his end and what he has done about it this morning.

Now I just have to wait till 2:30 to call the clerk that has been helping me out with all this craziness and should have it, hopefully, straightened out today with any luck provided they do as they say they will.

You have been updated with the cluster fuck of information.

if you go to the police they should be able to track him down with that.

They probably won't bother for a 2800 dollar theft, though.

Bummer that sucks. Did you file a police report because that might be needed to obtain the information.

it has to do with that van. Says clear title but was not. It was a repo and because so they want repo papers I cannot provide. So till I do fart papers out my ass they will not put it in my name so, Im screwed and he knows this Im sure. We were going to go on vacation next month to visit my wifes father who had a stroke but looks as though this will never happen.

When did we start living in a world where you ask ATOT first before calling the police or the doctor or whatever? :D

Maybe OP already called police and got the runaround?

What kind of a shitty area do you live in that the cops wouldn't bother with a $2800 theft?

Lots of places, we had a painter rip us off in Redlands, Ca for $4000. we were getting a lot done on the house, paid 1/2 (total job was quoted for $9k) for the carpentry, the paint, etc. Guys showed up to start, but other than setting up plastic tarps, they never started. Then the dude just took off. We had his old address, his current cell, and they still wouldn't go get him. We were referred to claims court and that it was a civil matter.

From what I understand, they say the trade for goods or services happened, just because he never started just means, he didn't finish the job and that would need to be determined in court. We eventually won, since he was a no show, but have yet to see the money...

Did he give you a title?

I've never bought a used car from a private party so I wouldn't have thought of that.

Who did you buy the van from, thr registered owner or the folks who repo'd it?

If you bought it from the registered owner, you should be able to back track him through your DMV.
If he legally didn't have the right to sell the van...you may be able to press charges with the police.

If you bought it from the company who repo'd the van, they should be able to sign off for the necessary paperwork.

I really question the intelligence of ANYONE who'd buy a vehicle without getting all the necessary contact info of the seller or having all the proper documentation (title, registration, etc.) in hand BEFORE giving them the cash...and having everything properly notarized.

Sorry about that man...always make sure you can transfer the title to your name before paying full price.

Important information: Did the van have candy or unsealed soda bottles in it?

Nah - it's a chicken or egg thing.

No one selling the car is going to allow you to take it having paid less then the agreed on price (to ensure they don't get screwed). The only way to truly not get screwed when buying is to insist the seller comes to the DMV to change title. Most sellers (legitimate and not) will tell you to go fuck yourself when you ask them to come to the DMV.

You don't directly state it, but I assume you've tried the cell and no one ever answers?

As others have stated, call the police.
