Update: BOUGHT a 2000 Lightning

It looks like tomorrow I'll be the new owner of a nice black 2000 Lightning w/30K on the odometer. According to carfax it's a 2 owner truck. Seemed to be in great mechanical shape... the paint was swirled all to hell though... easy enough for me to fix. 😉

Any must read websites/good forums that I should visit other than SVTLightnings.com?

This should be a little more enjoyable than my old 95 3000GT Base w/ATX. Except when I'm sitting at the gas station ofcourse. 😉

Sweet truck, man.
I'm actually leaning towards a performance truck similar to that, rather than a sporty car as well.

Can't help ya with the sites though, sorry. I'm sure you'll find tons, very fan worthy trucks.

How do you plan to get the swirls out?

Why not a 2001+? They have 20 extra hp and torque. But anyway, nice truck. Since the warranty is probably non existant on the truck, slap on a 90mm MAF, a #6 lower, a chip, and some Iridium's and welcome to the 12's 🙂

Actually it's got about 5K miles left on the 3 year/36000 mile warranty... better try to break something fast huh? 😉

I'd get a newer if they were a little cheaper. I'm trying to stay at $550/month or below. Personally I'd prefer a silver one simply because they hide swirls so well... but I'm dying to see what I can do with black car. I've had a lot of comments on how nice my 3000GT looks. I'm sure I'll take some pics once I detail it myself.

dmurray,
It'll depend on if I let the dealer do their little detail tomorrow... I'm thinking about it simply because I don't want to mess with it right now in the 90 degree heat w/100% humidity and daily thunderstorms. But when I do get my hands on it I'll probably be using a number of things. I've got a PC 7336SP orbital polisher, some 3M SMR for dark colored cars, some P21S gloss enhancing paint polish as well as P21S paste wax. I'm probably going to buy some Klasse AIO soon too. Don't worry I've got myself a nice arsenal available. My only worry is how the hell am I going to reach the roof comfortably? 😉

Lucky bastard. I want a Lbadddd

I can technically afford it right now too, but 🙁 need to wait for a bit.

Ahh, same buffer I have. Porter cable kicks ass. Anyway, I have a jet black Z3 that I baby to death, but the swirls have really been pissing me off. I've never taken it through a car wash, but apparently the dealer did. Somebody reccommended the 3M SMR before - I'll have to try that. What does SMR stand for?

Thanks,
Dan

Swirl Mark Remover. You can find that accronym and many others at www.autopia.org. It's probably the best site on the net for detailing enthusiasts & professionals.

Got one! 😀

Not the original one I was looking at though... the dealer wanted too much down upfront and was giving me some bs excuses about how they had to have cash advances from a CC instead of a regular charge to a CC.
Anyway I ended up with nice red 2000 L that just passed 16K as I was driving it around tonight. 1 owner truck and it looks like it was a weekend driver. MUCH nicer than the first one I test drove and doesn't have all the aftermarket crap like taillights and pedals. Bone stock. I'm gonna have fun with this thing. 😀

My bro in law was driving it tonight to get some dinner after a rain storm and he broke the tires loose while we were going 60 down the road. Now that's impressive power even if it was a little damp out. 😉
I'd post pics but I'm not sure how long the dealer will keep their link up. I'll probably take some of my own after I give it a good detailing sometime in the coming weeks. (Once it gets a little less humid)

I found that 3M IHG (Imperial Hand Glaze) followed up with a good coat of wax worked WONDERS on my black 2000 Sentra when I had it. I'd heartily recommend a bottle of the stuff.

since when did 4 cyl automatically make a car rice?

anyway i guess a SVT L is good if all you are gonna do is go fast in a straight line.... what about turns and stuff? i guess you dont go to the track.

My friend is scared crapless to drive his lightning in the rain, all that power just slams the wheels around in the rain.

I'm sorry but you're the biggest fvcking idiot in the world. It's a 4700lb truck, with a horrible weight ratio and an empty bed in the back. You really expect a stock Lightning it to compete with 911's, Ferrari's, and whatever else you want to name at the "twisties"? Get a clue dipsh!t.

Oh, and L's can be modded to handle rather well for a 4700lb truck. There are several over at F150online.com who've modded theirs for the twisties and can keep up with the above mentioned cars with ease.

You don't know much about Lightnings do you? 😉
They can go straight... and handle turns very well. They're basically a sports car in a 4700lb body. I remember reading a quote that it'll run laps around the track faster than a Mustang GT. Until the new Cobras came out the L was the fasted production vehicle Ford made. Do a google search on Lightnings you'll see. 🙂
I believe they got .85 on the skidpad

Here's a good link for info on Lightnings: Link

I'd much rather pay $30K for a new Lightning, add on $2K in mods, and smoke the hell out of some sucker who probably paid $55K+ for his truck. The look on his face would be priceless

I was joking around anyway, but that would be pretty funny. 😀

What would be funny is if I drove down to Rockingham towing a Z06 and had a Hayabusa in the back... and ran all 3 down the track. lol 😉
