HONDA cheated???

FIA CALLS FOR BAR - HONDA EXCLUSION

Formula 1?s governing body has called for the BAR-Honda team to be thrown out of the 2005 world championship at the Appeal Court hearing in Paris.

The FIA also recommended that the team be fined a minimum of one million euros in the dossier of evidence it submitted to the Court.

?The FIA asks the Court to exclude the Lucky Strike BAR Honda team from the 2005 Formula 1 world championship and to fine the team at least one million euros,? said an FIA spokesman.

The governing body is appealing the verdict of race stewards at the San Marino Grand Prix to uphold Jenson Button?s third place finish despite the fact that Briton?s car was found to be 5 kg below the 600 kg minimum weight limit.

from elsewhere - looks like mystery fuel tanks :) if true, HONDA was prolly doing it from the end of the last season - i hope button goes to BMW now ....

Looks like Honda is admitting:

"The lawyer representing BAR at the hearing, David Pannick said: "There was no secret chamber in this engine. At worst, there was a minor misunderstanding. A modest fine would suffice."

Wow, that seems a little stiff.

I haven't been keeping up with stuff this season. All I know is that Ferrari isn't doing so hot, even with their new car, and Renault (well, one of their drivers at least) is doing pretty awesome.

Wow, that's extreme. I doubt they would exclude the team for the remainder of the season though.

That's about all I know. And Williams/BMW is no where in the running.

u obviously never saw the last GP.....that ferrari is mega fast. schumi was well over 2 seconds a lap faster than anyone else through the mid-end part of the race, the part where it matters since it gets tricky on very worn tires.

if that car was on pole, if schumi hadnt messed up in quali, ferrari would of won that race. i really dont expect to see much more of alonso on the top step of the podium much longer. that ferrari is simply jaw dropping

5kg is HUGE even though it doesn't sound it. A 1kg transgression would be enough to raise the ire of other drivers (but those pesky europeans are so touchy anyways!)

That is a steep punishment!!! Hopefully just a minor fine, BAr team makes the season entertaining, and Button is a great driver.

Yup and make that YUP with capslock ... and as far as i am concerned TOYOTA's recent success is completely due to hiring a non-japanese ... how else can you explain the failures of TOYOTA with the biggest budget ...

then again HONDA has seen glory days in F1 ... dont forget prost, senna ...

Sato sure is fun to watch. Button doesn't do much for me in or out of the car, but we all have our favorites.

I wonder if we'll get to hear the "rest of the story" on this. It's been reported that the FIA already knew about the tanks, and that the tanks were filled during the race - that doesn't add up to get this outcome.

From F1.com yesterday :
"The focus of the hearing was a small, secondary fuel tank on Button?s car, which the FIA admitted they were aware of. When this was emptied the car fell under the minimum 600 kilogram weight limit.

However, BAR technical director Geoffrey Willis told the Court that the additional tank was a collector tank which had to hold a minimum of six litres of fuel at all times in order for the car to function."

Nope I don't get it, not with what's come out so far.

I agree with you that something is definately being hidden.

I'm wondering if this is a pissing match from the whole "we are forming our own league next year becuase the F1 administration are a bunch of idiots" issue that is going around.

edit: additionally, its quite amazing that depending on the fuel, the fuel in a 6L tank would weight about what.....5kg! Huh, what a conincidence, and while they were required to run with that tank full, they had to empy it for weigh in?????hmmmm....
