Several people that left product reviews for this say that it had the G04 media code. I'm really tempted to pick some up.

Why does the G04 matter?

I'm looking for a cheap MEDIA for my DVD burner... is this it?
Does this media have any major shortcommings? You know the drill.

This is the media not the burner.

For a good DVD +/- RW drive, take a look at the Lite-Ons from Newegg.com

Well Ritek is known for good quality media and the G04 is regarded as some of the best -R media around. Even if this wasn't G04 it would probably work for you just fine.

I was a Lite-On fan when buying CD burners but then I encountered that my Lite-On wouldn't burn Memorex Ultra Speed (24x) CDRWs without TONS of errors. That kind of soured me on Lite-On. So I just bought a NEC 2500A DVD burner. From what I've heard, this drive is not as picky with cheap media as some of the Lite-Ons are.

Of course this Ritek media is not cheap media, but if you ever get some...

Meritline has some that appear to be in the same packaging as these. They supposedly are G04s. I may have to give these a shot.

Want to hear a real sad story? Newegg put a distribution center in TN which means I have to pay sales tax now. You guys will forever get better prices from them over me now. :p

How can you tell if they are these mythical G04 media? Why are they better? I ordered a 50 spindle for this price a few weeks ago and they are packaged in a wrapped spindle with purple colored printed label and the disks themselves have "Ridata" and other assorted stuff on it in silver. They also read "Version 2.0" on them.

I had bought a Ridata 50 spindle/bulk pack a couple of months ago and they have been fine for burning DVD's to watch on DVD players. No problems at all with these Ridatas. They were packaged without a spindle in red and white "Ridata" shrink wrap without any other labeling on the disks themselves. They do smell a little funny but that's it. ;)

These look like grade A ritek G04. Low quality ritek G04 usually come in no name spindles or other branded spindles. Grade A stuff used to come in those Ridata Red Labeled spindles, now it comes in their new purple label spindles.

Grade A's also have ridata printed in the inner circle of the disc.

Bought some for $36 a few weeks ago, havn't used any yet though because i'm finishing up using all my old dvd-rs/+rs. Also, newegg sometimes will say special sale until such and such time, and after that time the price will go up maybe a dollar or two, and then eventually come back down like it did in my case.
