I am in Paris right now......doing a three month internship....i just finished my first week....i'm having a blast....EXCEPT i cant speak french....i have a pocket dictionary/phrase-book but it is very hard to see how the words are pronounced....i figure that i only need to know about 500 words to become semi-fluent.....

are there any websites that can help me learn french? i'm hoping to find some sites which have audio to listen to so i can figure out how to pronounce all the words correctly!!

also, any suggestions on what to do / what do see? i would like to DO SOMETHING....considering that the french work week is only 35 hours, i have a lot of spare time....i want to participate in something constructive......

Just become a terrorist, then the French will shower you with gifts and take you into their homes. You will be treated like a king and will learn French in a matter of months. Good Luck.

I noticed a mistake in the site : Shall I becomes "devrais-je" instead of "puis-je"

Other than that, your site is very nice

As for the pronunciation in french, you have to understand how to pronunce the vowels (consomnants are pronunced the same)

Its pretty simple. Unlike in english, the vowels are always pronunced the same (while in english, "e" is not the same in "the" and "eewww" or "eeemmm".

this is a huge misstatement, consonants in french are not always pronounced the same as english, very different in many cases.

If they have a topless beach somewhere, try to find a hot chick and leave her a special gift! ;)

Eurodisney, Park Asterix, Wine, cheeses, bistros, Take drives into the beautiful countryside - use back roads, not highways, into small towns & villages. People are friendlier there.

Go across to Belgium and Holland - beautiful places withs lots to see.

Damn I am jealous of you, I was only able to spend a weekend there but it was the best weekend I spent anywhere in Europe this semester (I was studying abroad in Denmark). I went with a girl I was interested in and she spoke a little French but could read it well so we some how managed.

My favorite stuff I did: drink wine looking at the Effiel Tower at night, wine bread and cheese by Notre Dame on the river, wine by the Sacred Heart (I never learned to pronounce it so I just called it the pile of cum) the view is quite nice in some places around it. -notice a trend here?

My take on French people was that they really arent that beautiful. They have the whole "I'm French" thing going for them but that's it. Danish girls and Russian girls are far better;)

Do you have enough money to travel? That's what I would like to do.

A couple you should add:

Je suis perdu - I am lost
Je ne sais pas (typically spoken as just 'je pas') - I don't know

And...lose the AOL spelling...it's 'you' :p

And for stuff to do, tour the countryside. Hit the small villages...eat at quaint restaurants...tour some vineyards. I'd drive someplace and then rent some bicycles and tour around.

Go to Normandy and pay your respects to all the men who died there for the French.

I also like the idea of running through the streets with a white flag:p
