This is probably something that you can modify in your power settings, within XP. Generally speaking, you are right in that 'modern' processors do have the ability to scale speed, based on an OS setting.

i am on my ze4000 right now which I picked up for $980.xx with tax included and there is a $100 rebate. I will give you my impressions. My system is basically the base model except I changed it to a dvd-rom drive and a 1.7ghz p4-m. Overall, I think it was a very good deal. The unit seems solidly built. One of the things I wish it included was a built-in floppy drive and maybe one of those nubbin mice things. As for computer running at half speed while it is on battery, that is a good thing. It saves battery life and will speed up to higher speeds if/when you need it. Expect it to take about 10 business days for you to receive your laptop. Mine ended up taking I think 11 business days to arrive. They come directly from Taiwan via fedex.

BTW, for whoever asked about anything except a celeron, you can change it to a p4-m if you'd like. I think its like +$100 more for a p4-m 1.7ghz which is what I got.

Which display did you get and what resolution does it support on the laptop LCD?

I am really looking for 1152x864 or 1280x1024 on the laptop LCD.

upgrade to SXGA+ should give you that resolution. RossMAN has a lot to say about SXGA+ vs XGA. :)

SXGA+ rocks compared to XGA, that's the cliffnotes version. Do yourself a favor go to your local BB or CompUSA compare an SXGA+ display against an XGA display. You wouldn't think the difference is big but it's HUGE.

If you like viewing your 19" CRT at 1280x1024 or 1280x960 then you should without a doubt get the 15.0" SXGA.

Um, usually 1600x1200 on 19" CRT. Does that qualify? :p

Yes. Viewing a 14.1 XGA is like torture similiar to a 17" CRT at 1024x768 everything is so HUGE ... you can't have 200 icons on your desktop and you have to SCROLL SCROLL SCROLL on webpages.

I got the 14.1 XGA and its fine by mine. I'm not sure if I would plop another $125 for the SVGA model or wahtever. The only resolution that it works well at is the 1400x1024 or whatever it is. I tried that on my friend's 15" dell and everything is so FrEAKING TINY! Only thing I wish was that the screen allowed for a higher refresh rate. I wanted soemthing like 85hz but it only supports 65hz. Oh well. Its not like I will be looking at this screen for hours at a time, thats what my desktop is for :)

I think the refresh rate on the lcd screen should not be compared to the ones for CRT... I believe it's much "softer" on your eyes. correct me if i'm wrong.

good deal, wish i can fork out the dough.

14.1 XGA on laptop or 15" XGA on desktop LCD works best for me.
So go check out some laptops at stores before you decide.

Change the screen to SXGA. you will regret it if you keep the xga with 15 inch.

Anyone know what the max resolution is on the SXGA+ screen is? I looked on the
HP site and couldn't find any references.
