UPDATE:

i got a very PRELIMINARY site up, dont expect any relevant CONTENT yet.

http://www.theavlist.com

should SHORTLY (hopefully) register as www.theavlist.com

THEAVLIST.COM is the sites name now.

I would like people to give me permission to link to their articles and postings ( looks@ schadenfroh :) and FOR NOW test the forum.

I need to know if the forum signup process works right since i had some weird stuff going on yesterday. Eg, for some reason i couldnt register under my gmail account and other bizarre things.

But it SHOULD be working.

Dont mind the few ads/links for now. I will get GOOD affiliates, eg. i will contact Eset, Kaspersky, Symantec and all the great players .

I want to provide really GOOD information and also have links ready for them.

It all will come still..patience :)

Feel free to give me your input/ideas.....but dont forget for now i basically just published the site to see if the basics are working live.

i am planning to put up a web site which is a comprehensive list of resources, reviews, tips etc. regarding Anti-Virus/Spyware/Adware/Malware.

I am looking for a name...which should be memorizable, outstanding, related to subject...but NOT a name like 1000s we already have. It SHOULD have an "A" in it :)

The site/resource list is also supposed to be free for the user - but i will have ads and i hope that the ads/affiliates and sponsors will cover the costs. Well..uhm...duh....like anandtech :)

Any ideas for a good name ?

I am still in the planning/designing etc phase....i also plan to link to resources eg. here on AT if i can.

thx :)

Edit: FOR NOW THE FORUM is basically the only thing which is FUNCTIONAL !
So check this out :)

AntiSource.com OH WAIT :D

I was going to nominate AnOunceOfPrevention.com but it's taken :(

Hopefully you throw in reviews of Common Sense, Listening To The Little Voice That Says DON'T DOWNLOAD THAT!, and Limited user accounts.

i have SOME ideas regarding names///but i cant tell 'em..otherwise someone might register it :)
I have to wait a bit (since i am broke) and then register a domain and get some space. Hopefully next week.

One good name eg. would've been "www.thelist.com", "www.avlist.com" or "avresource.com" <-- but of course they're taken already:)

guys..did a lot of work today :) I got a forum up and running, too. Had problems with vbulletin, so i installed Invision PowerBoard, it's not bad.

I also snagged a free domain as well as a free domain-name...just waiting for registration.

If you're interested in writing articles, or just would give me permission for links and reviews i will gladly include those on the site !

As for now this site should ONLY cover everything related to Anti-Virus programs/tools, Anti-Spyware programs. Opinions/Comparisons. Links to GOOD and hard information, how to get rid of specific viruses/trojans etc. Basically all related to the topic Viruses and Spyware and what to do about it :)

More later when it's up and running, next days...maybe :)

Please take my comments as constructive criticism.

The site already looks like other imposter sites that trick you into downloading crapware. The ad bar on the right offers noadware (once a rogue app and still a useless tool) and other dubious products. Spend some time on page layout, get rid of the black & white BG, create and use interesting images (unlike the current ones which are really bad), make a nice header logo, and work on the content. IMHO the first impression is really important until you establish yourself. I look forward to seeing how the site transforms over time. :)

john, i appreciate all input. I am aware about the crapware etc..... i got Kaspersky and others as partners now. I will at least provide a way for people to purchase reviewed products and products which are KNOWN to be good...so i think its not bad if i get promos from kaspersky, eset, symantec etc. Also..w/ content is clear.
Patience :) i do NOT have any content yet.....but...why dont you like the design/logo ? b/w background: you might have a point.
But as said i will do a lot of stuff still..so please patience :)

Btw. the f*****g host is down 70%-80% all the time.

I just want to pull eset/nod32 as an affiliate and need to give my url and email...and i cant because the ^&%!%!@ host is always down.

So..if anyone offers hosting w/ PHP etc....drop me a PM.

it's up. (Kind of).

Still adding content. Need links and permissions, if you have your OWN site or forum thread...please let me know !

Feel free to give me your input regarding the site.

Keep in mind...my plan is rather a repository w/ links and a community. NOT to make the 100000th security related website. We already have enough of them. However i can ADD links to the other sites to theavlist :)

If you don't mind more constructive criticism... it's too wordy and self-praising. I read it and get a gut reaction of "with all this self-praise, they've got to be hiding something ." Replace that horn-tootin' stuff with some content as soon as practical. :)

If you want a suggestion, maybe do an article where you explore the ups and downs of using a Limited account instead of a Computer Administrator account. Try downloading and running some malware from within your Limited account, like try deliberately installing MalwareWipe or VirusBursters or something. Try out your usual software (games, apps, IM, browsers, etc) and put up some discussion about what works, what doesn't, and what workarounds you found did/didn't work.
