hi,

i am somewhat hesitating investing money in a new system 'now', since i am asking myself if it could make sense to wait eg. another one/two month.
We all know that *always* something better/faster will be released 'in about 2 or 3 months'....but this time i think it actually could be worth waiting...

Why ?

I have reason to believe (to HOPE)...at least the logic tells me, that AMD *MUST* (will) come out with (real) new Processors soon....speaking of 2Ghz which in my opinion can only be a matter of time.
The point is...,going out NOW and buying a system with 1.4 Ghz....it just 'sounds' slow...and i'd be the first one to like to see AMD reaching the 1,7..1.8....etc. and finally 2.0 Ghz. Question: WHEN ?

This...automatically leads to the other question, since CPU-Mhz is not all:

Increasing of FSB from 133 to (say) 166 !! DDR 333 (ddr 2400, 2700) IS on the way and is sold already ! Again..makes me sick thinking bout getting a system 'only' supporting DDR2100 w/ FSB 133...when there are efforts already to introduce higher clocked rams 'very soon now'. ...again...everyone waiting for AMD and higher FSB clocked CPUs me guess....

Face it or not...i think 1.4 CPU Ghz and 133 FSB and DDR2100 is already outdated again.....and i havent even ordered the parts yet to build the system....what will be in...say 2 months, beginning of 2002....some makers (eg. SiS) already claim that DDR 2400 will be standard then....

() Leads to another question.....what about this ? Just care NOT about whats coming up "soon"...and buy a decent system now (eg. 1.4 TB, KT266A, but with all high quality components, DDR2400 ram etc...to OC the system to 150 or 166 FSB.
Having success with this (which i do not know !) would mean i can run a system at 166 FSB 'now' and dont have to 'worry' about upcoming stuff..since my system then already would have the same performance ...

The question here then would be....how stable and dependable current MoBos (266A, say Epox)..and CPUs are with a FSB at 166.....and if it would really be worth the money you would have to spend on better power supply (450W maybe)...DDR 2400 rams etc....i would need some input here from people ;)
(Because if this wouldnt be a problem there is no point in waiting for the next few months ;)

greetings

It will take a while for AMD to reach 2Ghz, their current architecture doesn't allow for such high frequencies easily, unless they have some new architecure lurking it will take some time, more than 2-3 months.

upgrade now, save the economy :) Even if you can only get to 150FSB, you will not notice the difference between 166 and 150....AMD is only at 1.53 GHz, it will probably not reach 2 GHz (unless you are counting the PR ratings, which is still a big doubt) before the end of the year.
