He happened to learn a bit about the new products SiS is going to introduce next year. This may be of interest to you:
SIS740/961 (aka Odyssey). It will support Socket A platforms, 200/266MHz system bus, PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC133 SDRAM, integrated 256bit 2D/3D graphics. It will allow implementing an external AGP 4x slot, LAN/Home PNA, ADSL MAC, integrated sound and modem, USB 2.0, UDMA33/66/ATA-100. The chipset is due in Q2 2001.
SIS640/961 (aka Columbus). This chipset will support Intel platforms with Coppermine/Tualatin processors, PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC133 SDRAM, integrated 256bit 2D/3D graphics. It will allow implementing an external AGP 4x slot, LAN/Home PNA, ADSL MAC, integrated sound and modem, USB 2.0, UDMA33/66/ATA-100. The chipset is due in Q2 2001.
SIS645/962. This discrete chipset will be made for Intel Pentium 4 CPUs and will support PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM, AGP 4x, UDMA33/66/ATA-100. The chipset is expected to be launched in Q4 2001.
Well, SiS chipsets will acquire USB 2.0 support in Q2 2001, i.e. together with ALi chipsets of the same kind. As far as the chipset for Pentium 4 CPU goes, this seems to be another phantom. Since the company doesn?t have Intel?s license, they are very unlikely to start work on this product now. That?s why we couldn?t be more specific about its features. Nevertheless, if everything goes on fine, SiS645 may be launched in time.
