Hard to say, but there's a more ranged stuff in TOR than you might think, including two full ranged tank subclasses. The main melee classes (Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior) get a nice closing ability though (force leap/charge).

There's a "throw big rocks" attack (for the Jedi Consular), but it's not based on actual environmental items.

A few people I know who've played the builds of TOR said the ranged classes are going to be OP when the game first releases unless they tweak them.

I've only played EQ so that means I'm sheltered I suppose when looking at MMO gaming as whole, but if EQ is any example - classes flip flop their power in both PvE and PvP from one extreme to another over the years.

So out of all the upcoming games I'e seen, here are the ones I've moved to the front line for me to check up on every so often:
The Old Republic, Black Prophecy, Jumpgate Evolution, Planetside NExt, Tribes Universe, The Secret World, Fallout Online, BSG Online , Guild Wars 2.

Any that are so well vaunted that I should also be on the look out for? I hate to admit it, but I have to say I like the EQ style of collecting gear being your main method of increasing power. Is WoW like that too? Or for that matter, are all MMORPG's like that in that gear accounts for most of your ability and skill points much less so?

Also, what kind of PvP is expected for GW2?

Gear is always #1 in any RPG man. A well geared Rogue could be a tank and vice versa. In a sense, all RPG's are quests for gear that will allow you to handle the challenges ahead.
 
I talked to a few people who are playing this massively multiplayer game called Real Life, but they all said it was lame because you have to do mundane things like go to work, exercise, and eat right.

I might be getting a biased view though because the game is exploration-focused and most of the WoW converts I talked to never leave their houses in Real Life.

Also, from what I can tell, people who get married in WoW, UO, and Everquest seem to have a really hard time finding girlfriends in Real Life.
 
And I'm assuming that, unfortunately, the physics of the game won't be detailed such that you can pick up heavy stuff with the Force and throw it at people...?
It looks like while you can only throw magically appearing boulders at people, you can also definitely throw the people.

It is. It's a limited form of physics, not just a baked animation that moves you for a set distance every time.

You'll really appreciate the difference when that Jedi Master sends you flying 30 meters, before you crash into a wall, go down - and just as you recover your footing see him Force Leap at you with his lightsaber drawn

We have control over angle, magnitude, etc. of the impacting force and it's used in quite a few scenarios, most notably, of course, Force powers. It's not full body physics (like e.g. GTA IV) by any means, in case you were hoping for that, but it does the job quite nicely for us, and definitely helps create a combat experience that feels different from your standard A-hits-B-hits-A-uses-special-ability-on-B MMO combat.

Some of the class trailers show it briefly (eg knocking people off a bridge), but we haven't really highlighted it a lot (yet). It's just part of our recipe for building combat that feels like Star Wars.
 
I can't see looking forward to any MMO's. Basically anything I've ever looked forward to was crap... I'm so jaded nowadays it's sad.

Diablo 3 where are yoooouuuu?!?!?!?
