I've posted a similar message like this at another forum and I'm getting conflicting information.

Some say that a BIOS upgrade will allow you to upgrade current 400 Mhz FSB Intel boards to the upcoming 533MHz FSB P4 CPU ..... others say that is ludicrous and Intel will force you to buy a new board with the i850E chipset. By the same token I've noticed that DELL is providing BIOS upgrades that say "support for future processor ... up to 4GHz". Who is right ??????????????????

I don't know, but I do know my Abit TH7-II has a default setting for 533Mhz FSB chips all the way up to 3Ghz.

I find it very unlikely that OEM 850/845-D boards will be able to run 533fsb CPU's at 533fsb. Those boards don't naturally have 533fsb options and I doubt they will be able to be modified to run at 533fsb, besides, 533fsb is yet another thing they can market and make money off of by making it more expensive than 400fsb. However, many 845-D/SiS 645/850 retail boards (the most popular are Asus P4S333, Asus P4B266 series, Asus P4T-E and Abit TH7II) can easily run at 533fsb, and many more than the ones I listed can as well, those are just the most popular.

What about retail boxed Intel motherboards such as D850MVL .... can those be used at 533 MHz FSB ???

it'll completely depend on the board. many boards will, as i'm sure many boards won't be able to.
