I really wished he had showed up and banged the other girl in the end, but I wasn't surprised. I called that she was married about halfway through as well. Overall, not a bad movie, but not one that I will be watching again.

this was a way better movie, with a much better story, acting, chemistry, depth than the hurt locker. IMO, it should have won best picture. i watched hurt locker a second time and i can't figure out why everyone loves it. Is it just because we're in the support the troops mentality?

I didn't see the Hurt Locker, but this was, up til the end, an enjoyable diversion with, as you said, some great chemistry between the two stars.

I was never convinced of Clooney's serious acting as the only movies I saw were silly Oceans' & Dusk til Dawn.

Up in the Air was amazing. The movie made me laugh my ass off, feel for the guy and even get me chocked up a bit in the end.

I knew it wasn't a chick flick from the start. It had a particular tone... I knew the ending wouldn't be disappointing and I loved every bit of it.

Up in the Air was in line with all the layoffs going on during the recession. This movie was better fitted to pull public sentiment. The war in Iraq is old news now.

But with that said even with your points above, I don't believe this movie was best picture material. Was way too predictable. Plus the academy doesn't like George Clooney.

I haven't watched Avatar and Inglorious basterds or precious yet, but i've seen some of the other best picture nominees and so far i thought it was the best. I may have to agree with you, not best picture material in general, but out of the selections for this year i could easily say so.

The movie was enjoyable while it lasted. No lasting impact, nor was it good enough for me to recommend to anybody who hasn't seen it. I'm not sure why it was ever considered as "best picture."

Did not really like it. I don't see why it was nominated for best picture. Sure, it was fine and dandy, and well done, but there was nothing exceptional about it at all.

I thought this movie was the best of 2009 IMO. The chemistry between the actors were phenomenal. The directing was probably the best out of all the movies of 2009. I enjoyed all the nominees (haven't seen precious). I lol'd a ton at this movie, and felt for the main character in the ending. It's probably because I can relate to the main character as I live a similar life.
