Why? It just makes me sad to think that there's never been a game as good since then, and probably never will be. They gave us the freedom to make our own world with very few rules. It was destroyed by people who wanted to play on "easy mode."

It wasn't just the game it was the Internet and something like nothing else.

It did get jacked for mass appeal. But there have been other shards with dread day rules it just wasn't the same.

It's like a first ball game something to remember.

Why don't they just retire UO and make a completely new version that takes better advantage of today's hardware but same gameplay value? Wouldn't the existing players just migrate over and this would attract new players so guarantee profitable?

I would preoder this. I'm a big fan of all the single player games, but never got into UO. I was into MUDs around the time it was popular.

Played this back in 98/99 before they had the "easy mode" patch, and it wasn't really worth playing after that.

They did, it was called WISH, and it died in beta because it was so bloody boring.

EVE is as good as it gets if you want a world created and managed by the players.

Why can't they just keep everything the same but have modern graphics?

Used to play on free shards uogamers
Hoarded a shit load of houses but now all collapsed. Fun time pking noobs at brit bank with explosion pots macro.

When the Vampire the Masquerade MMO comes out, that'll be epic.

It's being done by (the whole RPG game development company was purchased by) the same folks that do EVE.

1. Then it would just be another MMO with all the other new MMO's

2. The many years of time invested by the playerbase in the current game

3. One of the main draws being the history and nostalgia of the current game

Updating is one thing, replacing another.
