Unwanted shortcuts get created

Hi. There have been some shortcut issues going on in my pc. A shortcut folder of its namesake gets created in every local drives. But only in the folders within the drive, not in the folders within them

For example, there are folders named X, Y, Z in local drive E. X has 3 other folders a, b, c in it ; Y has 2 folders p,q in it. There'll be a shortcut of X inside the X folder, a shortcut of Y folder inside Y, and a shortcut of Z inside Z. But there won't be any shortcuts of a,b,c or p,q created in their namesake folders. If i delete the shortcuts, they appear again at the next startup. This is the case for every drive including the C drive.

What can i do now? I have installed windows again, scanned the pc (with avast) but the problem still remains. Please help

I would keep uninstalling programs until the situation stops then by deleting the last program you then would know the offending program that did that.

Any other way?

There is no other way other than removing supposed offending program.

You can not flip switches and tweak this or that without making drastic changes.

The only hope in not doing so is hoping that someone who has suffered your ills
has gone through the same thing as you and has found the fix and replies to this thread.

Otherwise you have to go old school and remove each software title from your pc until it stops.

Once it stops then you will know it was the last software title you removed that was the guilty program.

Then you just shoot an email to the support page of that company and tell them of your dissatisfaction on how that program operates.

They might reply and say "Oh that is a bug and here is the fix for it."

thanks for your response. will try it and let you know.

Hey, sorry for not being able to respond here for so long. I was able to fix the problem with the help of a friend of mine. He told me to use a software named usb fix, which did the trick for me. Now no more irritating, everlasting shortcuts on my pc! Thanks for your responses 🙂

Hey, i don't know. Maybe they are pup. But the soft i used was pretty simple. It did get rid of the problem and i'm happy now 🙂

now the problem i had is solved, what should i do with this thread? Close it i guess?

I'm not seeing how this problem recurrs after a fresh windows installation. Just go with the standard installation and add your programs more slowly so you can identify what is causing this.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's an usb drive that had been the reason all along. My brother freqently used it for his work and i wasn't aware of it. After everytime i installed windows, he'd use the usb drive at some point. And the shortcut issue would seem to not go away. Hope i made myself clear
