How i turn off updates for The Facebook (deleted the account more than a year, never used that app on my Droid) and Twitter (never used it, and do not plan to)? I know these are in the ROM, so uninstalling is out, but i just want the update notifications to stop. I get them every day.

go to accounts and sync and just disable the sync.

He doesn't want to disable the sync, he wants to disable the market notifying him of upgrades.

And OP, I'd say either root your phone to get rid of them, or just suck it up and update them. Or you can turn off update notifications globally in the market.

So, my only options are to disable all updates (not desired, i just want The Facebook and Twitter to stop bother me), or to root the thing to get these off the ROM? Sigh...

BTW, im using a Driod1.

Umm, I have a droid 1 also, and Twitter & Facebook are most definitely NOT part of the ROM. Uninstall them.

If you decide to root your phone, look for an app called "SDX Stock App Remover." It will let you backup and then remove (and later restore, if you choose) any stock app that came with your phone. You won't find this app on the Market (there are others that are, but I've not used them), but it's out there and it works. One note of warning: if your phone is still under warranty and you need to send it in for repairs (mine was and I did), you'll have to restore your stock apps and unroot the phone to keep the manuf. from voiding your warranty. However, if you are out of warranty, have at it! The fact that Android phones are subsidized leaves them bloated with more of the manuf. and carrier's crap than anyone would want or need. I have removed nearly every stock app that came with my AT&T Moto Bravo and it's joy to use now.

if you are running a custom rom you would allready be rooted. also I know of no rom that has FB and twitter preinstalled. you are either trolling or very confused because there should be nothing stopping you from uninstalling those aps

Facebook is an user app. Just uninstall it.

If your custom ROM had it preinstalled, then you're already rooted and you can uninstall it with the free version of Titanium Backup.

I am not rooted, and not running a custom ROM. Twitter and The Facebook are part of the ROM. It was pushed out by Verizon a number of months ago. Uninstalling from the ROM is not possible without rooting.

They are built into the firmware. In some cases, you are able to uninstall updates to the app, but if you want to completely rid your Droid of pre-installed apps such as Facebook and Amazon MP3, you will need to root your Droid.

So, again, the only option is rooting. Lame.

BTW, whats with all the hostility in here?

Several stock builds from HTC/Moto/Samsung put Facebook and Twitter, or their shitty equivalent versions, into /system/app. :(

I apologize for hostility I just never remembered them being built in to the og Droid. Rooting it is supreme easy. Pretty sure 1 click root works

Eh? On the Droid 1, they were in system/app on the Moto builds. Several early version ROMs left them there too, wasn't until much further into their life cycle where they started outright removing them entirely.

Rooting isn't that hard though. Root + ES File Explorer or SDX Stock App Remover and you can easily get rid of any system apps you don't want.

I understand why some people don't want to root their phones but I think a lot of people don't realize how easy it is. Well, it's not as easy as downloading an app from the market, but it only takes a few minutes.

Another option is using a launcher replacement like LauncherPro, GoLauncher EX, or ADW Launcher to hide unwanted apps. They'll still be there and they will show up in your update notifications, but at least they'll be gone from the app drawer, for what that's worth.

There's more than one option. You can root, or you can just update the apps.

Those apps aren't updated very often, like the lower-quality crap that is updated almost daily.

If you don't want to root why not just set it to automatically update in the market? Blame Verizon for forcing it. You can even set auto updates to only be over Wifi so it doesnt use data. 404 rage not found.
