Unwanted and broken Vista desktop "items"

I have 4 "blank" desktop items that I cannot delete or rename. Right-clicking and selecting delete (or rename) doesn't work, as I get the message "Could not find this item" "This item is no longer located in C:/Users/Madmax/Desktop. Dragging and dropping into Recycle Bin gets same message. Also I can't delete them using Windows Explorer or from a DOS prompt.

I've searched the forums as well as googled the problem, but have found no solution. The link is related to failed .torrent downloads. Also, I've tried Revo Uninstaller, but it does no list them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you see the items from a cmd prompt? Try deleting them from there, it sounds like you have a screwy desktop extension.

I did try using the DOS prompt. Using "dir" and "dir/w" as commands, I can see the names of these files. However, running the "del" or "rd" or "remdir" I get a syntax error. Thanks for responding.

I copied a folder over the network to the desktop (Vista), and when I tried to delete the folder 30 minutes later I couldn't. For some reason a few of the files inside wouldn't delete no matter what I tried, including running cmd (del) and explorer as admin to delete.

So I rebooted into safe mode and deleted it. Fucking bullshit.
