Unusually large amount of spiders this year?

Maybe it's just in my area, but I have never seen this many spiders in/around my house this year. I've had two enormous ones on my deck for about 3 weeks now (no pics, camera is vacationing in italy). They made their webs right by the flood light on my deck so that when the bugs fly towards the light they get caught in the web...smart little buggers. My friend who lives about an hour south of me has also noticed the same thing and his area is much more open than mine, but then again just about anything is more open than Northern NJ. Has anyone noticed the same thing this year? On another note, i heard all the stories about the cicades coming out this year, but I barely heard them at all. Maybe the spiders at them...:Q

Posting on AT while a spider is in someone's apartment and she wants 'help'? He's doing that just fine.

No spiders here, I don't usually many though. Hmm New Jersey, eh? You can have them spiders, just make sure they don't learn how to swim 😉

As one of the locals has explained to me, the spiders are there because the food is there. I, too, am loaded with spiders but that's normal here.

The spiders have a more abundant food supply with the large insect population caused by the large amounts of rain we've gotten.

Yeah we've gotten crazy amounts of rain this year too. NJ usually gets the remnants of all hurricanes/trop storms...STUPID JET STREAM!

after a 2-week trip away ... I came home through the garage door rather than the unlit front door. I swear that passage is already webbed like no other. I will do some hunting at daybreak.

I don't hate spiders. I just hate facefuls of web.
