so about 2 months ago i bought a bigger, 90 mm fan for my cpu instead of my loud-as-hell 80mm tornado (after having used it for like 6-8 months). im using an slk800u, so the 90mm fans dont exactly fit, tho i read in a few places, and eventually tried this out... u can rotate the fan 45 deg so the corners stick out, but it stays on, so i was happy.
problem was, taht my temps went up much more than u'd think switching from a 84.1 cfm fan to a 64.15 cfm fan would do (plus having done that rotated fan thing, its not touching as much as the heatsink directly as th tornado did). i went to about 34 load to 49 idle. so i put my tornado back on, and it wasnt much better, like 44 idle. so i figured i moved the heatsink a little or something and reseated it (cuz this fixed my probs when i had similar issues like this a few months before). taht didnt do anything....
i kept crashing and stuff, which was weird, cuz even at 49 degrees + a few for load, u woukldnt expect it to crash..and i mean completely frozen. a few weeks later, when i moved my rig to our basement cuz its colder down there (summer is coming soon too), i found out th hard way that the electrical socket down there was bad..and that the monster APC surge protector im using did jack..
so i sent my mobo back in cuz it was fried, and my psu to be safe. i got em back and im back and running upstairs where the pc was orig. located. i have everything back to the way it was originally, and im still at 43-45 idle with the tornado.
my pc doesnt crash anymore, tho ihavent played any games since i got it up, so it might still (ill folow up tomorrow w/ info on taht). the only logical thing i can think of, tho far fetched, is that its due to late spring/summer coming...but 15 degrees!?? i tried to route my cables better today, and its pretty tidy in there like i had it orignially. one interesting thing is that my case temp is 32 degrees, and it was 29 and NEVER moved before when it was working the way i had it orig.
when i rebuilt my pc the other day w/ my new mobo & psu, i noticed that my heatsink looked the way copper does when it gets water on it (turns a little green). i only noticed it cuz my friend had his sp94 that he was puttin in and it was DAMN shiny. i'd LOVE to deem this defective and RMA it knowuing that they wont ahve any stock for slk800u's and then use that $$ to get an sp97
but i'd feel bad...sorta... ;p. btw, th system is the one in my sig
so i guess my question is, WHAT THE HELL!?!?
