Hi, I'm going to be quite detailed, so please bear with me 🙂. I've been at it for 3 days straight (its school holidays thank god so nothing else to do) - I've tried everything i can think of but maybe you guys can help.
When I started my computer up a few days ago (I didn?t install any new programs, new devices or make any changes) , a blue screen appeared after the Windows loading screen (the one with the horizontal scrolling bars, before the welcome/logon screen). The screen gave the following message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time?etc etc
Technical Information:

There was nothing else on the blue screen (ie file names, IRQ messages, etc). I have tried ringing Dell (the maker of the computer), but they are useless and refuse to send out someone because it is not a hardware problem.
I have tried a few things. I firstly went into safe mode, and checked device manager for any conflicts (there were none). I then checked the event log and found that the major problem was that a number of services relating to network capabilities would not start because ?the device was not attached? ? sorry for the vague description but I cannot get into safe mode anymore to get the error message as I will explain later. I disabled all the network adaptors in the device manager because I thought that was what may have caused the error message. I then restarted the computer, but windows would not load normally still. Then, I ran some of Dell?s utilities to check the hard disk, memory, CPU, motherboard, etc. All the tests passed, but when I restarted it again I could not get into any safe mode (command prompt and networking too) anymore, and it gave the same stop message as it does when you normally boot up the system. It freezes after it loads mup.sys. VGA mode does not work either. Somehow the problem has ?spread?, and does not let me enter safe mode either anymore. We definitely have enough disk space too (around 40 gigs) I tried leaving the computer on for a while when I booted in safe mode even though it seemed to be frozen during safe mode startup. Eventually, the blue screen came up.
I have tried resetting the bios to the factory defaults, tried repairing the windows installation, tried running chkdsk (with the /p switch), tried rebuilding the boot sector and master boot record, tried unplugging all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse, tried rebuilding the boot.ini file via the recovery console and tried disabling mup.sys but now the system freezes on the previous .sys file. I have tried repairing the windows installation but after it repairs and it says ?rebooting?; it reboots and when windows loads the same error message still results. Ie the same stop error message still results when booting both normally and in safe mode. There were no options in the BIOS to disable the L1/L2 cache or shadowing or USB 2.0 or change ACPI settings. I have tried reseating the RAM to no avail.

The links may help you guys?. What really puzzles me is that I could get into safe mode at first but now somehow I can?t anymore. I?ve got files on the computer that I would like to retrieve and if I can retrieve them that would be excellent. Even if I could somehow get into safe mode again, I could use my CD burner to burn the files I want then reinstall windows. Any help would be much appreciated.
